Have mercy and be gracious unto me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; with grief my eye is weakened, also my inner self and my body. For my life is spent with sorrow and my years with sighing; my strength has failed because of my iniquity, and even my bones have wasted away. Psalm 31:9-10 AMPC
There is a heavy price for sin. You have likely lived through its consequences. Poor choices lead to personal loss, destroyed families, and loss of respect. If you could take back a moment of weakness, you would—but you can’t.
God even says that sin always leads to death. That could be physical, but it could also be a spiritual separation from Him until you turn away from sin.
When you sin, when you know you’re in trouble, when it seems like you’ve handed over the last bit of life left, and when the most profound act you can think of is to sigh, then do what King David did. Admit your guilt and ask for mercy. When you’ve endured all you can without God’s blessing, the wisest thing you can do is walk back to Him—a reformed prodigal.
God doesn’t bring your past—He forgives. He doesn’t condemn—He loves. He doesn’t treat you like a criminal—you’re an adopted son.
Prayer: Father, I’m not sure why, but sin always makes me want to hide from You. I can get defiant, angry, and defensive. Help me admit what I’ve done and come back to You.
