Need a Good Book

My dh needs a good book to read. And, no, he won't read THE GOOD BOOK. He's of the new age persuasion, and therefore is into sci-fi, action-type books. But, right now, he is realizing that all the movies and books he has been influenced by has only led to confusion and doubt, and he is really disillusioned, which may not be such a bad thing considering.

I have been unable to influence him in the area of religion, but I have been praying that he will come to the same realization I have . . . that Heavenly Father is our only hope of happiness and fulfillment. He so desperately wants to "feel alive" again, but he doesn't understand that what he is putting into his head is what his heart is feeling.

My hope is that someone will have some ideas of a series of books he can read to get some real answers. A long time ago, he read the Left Behind series, and that started him on his quest for answers. He tried reading the Bible after that, but came to a conclusion . . . that if there is a God, He is a vengeful one and plays little games with us.

I realize that you cannot make someone believe in something. I just wish he would taste and see how much Father loves him and be willing to give Him a try.

I'm sure all of you will join me in prayer for him, and I thank you for that. I have had a number of people praying for him over the last two years at times. But, I was hoping there might be a book, maybe even an evolution book that might prick his soul to reach up and try God once again. Thanx for any suggestions.

A few books

I know of 3 books two of which I have read. The Shack by William P. Young, Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, and Wild at Heart by John Eldredge. May the Lord pour in the wisdom and knowledge to overflowing into his heart as he opens it to recieve. Be blessed dear sister.

Hello,
Ted Dekker is an awesome writer. I have also read a bit of Bryan Davis but after reading through some Jewish literature I have decided on to continue to read his material for personal reasons, however, he is an awesome writer for young adults. Peretti and LaHaye are good too.

For myself, I like historical fiction and Francine Rivers or Brodie and Brock Theone are my fav's. I work at a library and have tried to research some good Christian authors to give some of my customers.

Hi Honeybare, I appreciate your concerns for your dad's salvation and trust you will never give up praying for him.

On the Evolution theme I can highly recommend two excellent authors who are experts on the subject. Ken Ham and John McKay.

I also recommend William P Young's 'The Shack'. Excellent novel that can help those who wonder where this God is in tragic circumstances. I understand they are turning it into a movie, which will be great.

Many unbelievers have this notion that the Christian faith is all about following a set of 'Thou shalt not's'. Sadly, there are als many Christians who still believe this after committing their lives to God. Well, two books I can highly recommend are 'Search for significance' by Robert S McGee and 'Putting amazing back into grace' by Michael Horton. I have read and re-read both of these and know that every Christian should read them and can guarantee they will be encouraged in their faith.

I have met many people who believe they have done such terrible things in their past they could never forgive themselves, let alone expect God to forgive them. Again, this is often the case for many Christians. They might accept that God has forgiven them but they still hang on to unforgiveness for themselves. I recommend 'Totally forgiving ourselves' by R T Kendall.

I'm sure you will find all of these books on Amazon. The Lord Jesus bless you, Honeybare, as you continue to pray for your Dad's salvation.
