A good [man] leaves an inheritance to his children's children…. Proverbs 13:22
In the United States many people, especially children, observe National Grandparents Day on the first Sunday of September after Labor Day. They draw pictures and tell stories about their grandparents. They also send cards to their grandparents and either visit them or invite them to dinner. This can be a very meaningful time and allows people to celebrate and appreciate their heritage.
If you’re a grandparent, this day can be special for you even if your grandchildren are unaware of the holiday and aren’t taught about it in school. You can be the one to initiate the phone call and use the opportunity to be a good grandparent to them. Take them out and treat them, and let them know how deeply you love them. Give them reason to be thankful for you and appreciate you.
Solomon said, “Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren” (Proverbs 13:22), and this need not only be physical possessions after you die. It’s important that you pass down a trove of spiritual wealth and faith to your children and grandchildren while you’re still alive. You can also tell them stories about your life, and make them aware of their family heritage. Both you and they will be happy you did.
