My Walk with God

In my walk, it's all about God, God, God! I've been starting to really get into the Word, lately. I don't know if this is how it's supposed to be done, but I'm starting in Psalms 1 and memorizing one verse at a time. I think about what the verse means (is that called meditation?) and then, when I start on the next verse, I put it together with the last verse I studied, and so on. For example, I'm studying Psalm 1, verses 1 and 2. Watch this:

"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night."

See, I just put it together as a passage.

it's great what you are doing and i can see you realise the importance of studying the word but its advisable to not focus so much on so much on memorising but rather also focus on applying it in your prayer and in your life.. GOD bless.

Welcome spirit_driv3n! It is good that you are memorizing and meditating but just as jesus'daughter said, don't get caught up in just memorizing, but applying as well. Memorization is great for "bible bullets" just as Jesus had in his 40 days in the desert when Satan tried to get to Him.

One thing I learned early on from reading the bible is that if you're just reading one verse, that verse may not have the same context as you may think it does by reading it alone. It is important to understand the context of the chapter and book in order to properly study the Word and understand what it's telling you.

As far as where to start in the Bible, I don't think that matters...what matters most is that you're in there. I started off reading cover to cover but when I got past 2 Samuel, I needed a change. So now I switch from NT to Psalms/Proverbs to OT.

The most important thing is to pray before each study time for God's guidance and for you to be able to "soak in" what He has to tell you.

5-step process

Yeah. Just yesterday, I came up with a five-step process as to how to study the Bible. I have this book called "Prayers Avail Much - Volume 1." It has examples of prayers I can pray using verses from the Word. It had a prayer especially for walking in the Word, and in it was text in italics that said something about wrapping my schedule around the Word, or vice versa, or something like that. So I made a weekly Bible study plan. Monday through Saturday I do the five-step process I mentioned with three verses per day. Sunday, I get my Scriptures from church. On the other days, I look for verses in my "Prayers Avail Much" book, because after each prayer is a list of verses that were in that prayer. Here is the 5-step process I came up with:

• 1. Read: Read the verse
  2. Memorize: After reading the verse out loud, try to remember it (sometimes this step is skipped because I would already know the verse by heart)
  3. Meaning: What does this verse mean?
  4. Action Appearance: What would it look like in a real-life situation?
  5. Practice it: Practice doing what the verse would look like in real life.

Is this a good way to study the Bible? I saw a Bible Study thread on this website. Maybe that will help me, too. I'm going to try it, right now!
Maybe I can do this to type letters to God, because that's how I pray to Him, and how He talks to me.

It is wonderful that you are looking at the Bible. But don't just do it because you feel its necessary. When you want to hear from God, the first place you start is in the Bible. The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. So its great to memorize scripture. But also act on that scripture. Don't just read it, use it! Devotion books are great for guiding scripture. And talk to your pastor. Tell him or her about yourself and some of your struggles, and ask him for scripture references. And then think about the people who write devotional books and the pastors who can give you helpful scriptures. That in some way, is God's will for you and for all of us. We need to be people that others, who are lost, can come to for help.

This scripture is a layout of life seemingly. Try not only talking to God, but also living for him. The scripture is your greatest weapon, and greatest comfort. Learn how to wield it by studying it for more than just the sake of knowing it. When you live for God, you'll want to talk to him and hear from him more and more. And the more experience you get, the easier it is to hear him in everything you do. I hope this helps. ^.^
