More Than Proof: Listening to Jesus

I recently watched a debate with Piers Morgan. He was asking what evidence there was for the existence and divinity of Jesus — much like atheists ask for evidence of a creator God and how we arrive at ours being the one true God

It irks me how often we, as Christians entertain arguments from people who are in no way, shape, or form actually searching for God. It is not the end of the world to engage in debate and discussion on these topics. The science behind God is truly fascinating. The evidence for Jesus is overwhelming.

BUT, I do not believe these conversations are 'that' fruitful. It will be more effective for us to encourage people to make right with their conscience. Repent of their sins. Follow the teachings of Jesus. As, when they do this they will inevitably run into God James 4:8. Receive a revelation from above of who Jesus is Matt 16:16-17, 1 Cor 12:3 and who the one and true God is. The sign that God usually gives the wicked is a plague Matt 12:39 : unamused:.

----------------------

1. God Reveals Jesus — You Don’t Debate Him into Existence

Matthew 16:16–17: “Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.’”

Peter’s declaration didn’t come from logic or persuasion. It wasn’t a theological debate that led him to faith. It was revelation. God Himself opened Peter’s eyes to see Jesus for who He truly is.

1 Corinthians 12:3, Paul says: “...no one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ except by the Holy Spirit.”

Faith is not like believing in unicorns or fairy tales. Faith, in the biblical sense, is a response to revelation. It’s the work of the Holy Spirit in the heart of a person who is seeking truth. God does not hide Himself from the humble and sincere. He reveals Christ to those whose hearts are open, not necessarily to those with the best arguments.

2. Faith Without Obedience is Empty

James 2:19 “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that — and shudder.”

The demons believe in God. They even know Jesus is real. But are they saved? No. Why? Because knowledge is not obedience. Belief is not submission. Knowing Jesus exists is not the same as following Him.

Matthew 7:21–23 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven...”

There will be people who believed in Jesus but did not obey Him. And He will say to them, “I never knew you.” Let that sober us.

3. What God Wants: Repentance and Obedience

John 14:15: “If you love me, keep my commandments.”

This is the heart of Christianity — not just believing in Jesus’ existence, but living out His teachings. God is not calling us to win arguments; He is calling us to bear fruit.

People sometimes say, “I struggle to believe in God.” And while those struggles are real and valid, we must remember this: what matters to God is not whether you can define Him, but whether you are willing to obey Him.

There will be people who never sat in a church pew, who never got into theological debates, and yet they walked in goodness and humility, and God revealed His Son to them in His perfect time. Likewise, there will be people who called themselves Christians, who could quote the Bible backward — and yet their hearts were full of pride, hatred, and unrepentance. Jesus will say, “I never knew you.”

4. The Gospel is for the Broken

Jesus said: “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matt. 11:28)

The people Jesus reached were not the intellectual elite or the religious gatekeepers — but the broken, the humble, the outcast, the sinner. Those desirous of making right with God.

Conclusion:

Jesus should not be a science project. He is a real person waiting to introduce Himself to the lost.
