For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever before me. I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin. But my foes are vigorous, they are mighty, and many are those who hate me wrongfully. Those who render me evil for good accuse me because I follow after good. Psalm 38:17-20 ESV
King David was either on the verge of a miracle or collapse. He returned to God and admitted his wrong. You learned yesterday that God is merciful and gracious, but the consequences of your sin can mean you may need to endure the loss of trust among those you broke trust with. You may discover the hurt you caused others is something they aren’t ready to let go of. You may even discover that anger leads others to keep their distance from you.
You may endure more than you think is fair. Why? Sin breaks what God gave to you unbroken—and you’re never the only person who must endure its aftermath. Maybe that’s one of the reasons God warns so strongly against it. God gave you commands to keep relationships in good shape. Choosing sin always damages relationships. Some relationships don’t return easily. Don’t allow this time of endurance to bring you to the point of giving up.
Prayer: God, when I sin, I can run to You. Give me the strength to endure the hurt I’ve caused othters. Help me make things right and rebuild trust.
