Missionaries

Discussion in 'The Library' started by Dave M, Jan 26, 2018.

  1. I love to read books about or written by missionaries. A great way to get excited about what the Lord is doing all over the world.

One of my all time favorite books is on Jim Elliot. "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" there is also a movie on the story.

You want to read about what only God can do with people hearts and transform them this is a great story. And has God written all over it. No other conclusions can come from watching this story other then WOW God is Awesome !! Yet it is about young missionaries who die at the hands of savage Indians, you wont believe what happens next. Sorry you will have to at least look up the movie on you tube to see for yourselves :)

    Highly recommend it.

Do you have a favorite book or movie on missionaries or any story how God is honored and glorified in it that you would recommend? please post them here

  4. Greetings Dave,

yes, reading Missionary stories is wholesome as are other books like autobiographies and biographies about Christian men and women.
We can learn so much about the God we serve and it is also very encouraging for us, if we read them.

Thank you for this thread. A wholesome topic!

I liked Rees Howells: Intercessor by Norman Grubb,

Another from years ago, Ten Fingers for God: The Life and Work of Dr. Paul Brand by Dorothy Clarke Wilson

    Bless you ....><>

  8. Greetings brother @Dave M

The missionary books of the late Isobel Kuhn about how she found Christ and went on to be a missionary for the Lisu people in China are well worth reading......along with the works of Hudson Taylor also a missionary in China.

Funny you mention Hudson Taylor I was getting ready to post a youtube video on him this week sometime, great minds think alike :), man that guy is inspiring. He and George Muller had very similar way to raising funds didn't they . As in only tell God what we need and he will provide and bang God provided every time truly just amazing faith they had !!
