Greetings in Jesus,

I am new here and would like to know if anyone can tell me what is referred to as 'milk' and 'meat'?

The Bible mentions this a few times ie:

1 Corinthians 3:2
I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

I mean is 'love your neightbour' milk, and 'forgive 70 times 7 times' meat?

A list would be useful if such a thing is possible.

Thanks and blessings to all...

I'm just a worm....uh, well, a very small fish in God's Sea.:cat: (likes anchovies)

Hi, good question.

You're examples would be both more like "milk" where when it comes to separation issues would be more like "meat".

In my experiences, the milk is preferred where the meat is not taken very well. That is where Paul is reproving the carnal Church of Corinth for their failure to adhere to separation issues and thus denying the workings of God in their sanctification.

We witness much of that happening today where separation is concerned.

Now that will not go without saying some think separation means to separate to the point of being isolate. If we use Lot and his two daughters as an instance of turning from being very carnal, to the point of having no confidence from his own family to avoid the judgement of God as he warned them to flee from Sodom and Gomorrah, to isolating themselves upon a mountain of Lot's own choosing, we can see the negative result in isolating ourselves and our children is actually worse.

Paul was talking to a church that was spirtually immature. He had to teach them as kids, so milk suited their understanding.( babies can not consume meat )

“ Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” ( Matthew 5:6).

Our spiritual self need to be fed. ( with teachings from the word )
As we mature our hunger grows, and we need more than milk to satisfy our spiritual needs.

Milk and meat is the same thing, they both satisfy the body spiritually. The quantity or consumption is the difference.

Hebrews 5:14
14But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

1 Peter 2:2
2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

I dont think there is a list, but there needs to be an understanding to how we feed ourselves spiritually. You can not give meat ( teachings )to an immature person in Christ and expect them to understand it fully, neither should we give milk to a mature person and expect them to go further in their walk.

Hebrews 5:12-14

12For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

I mean is 'love your neightbour' milk, and 'forgive 70 times 7 times' meat?
That would depend, on where you are spiritually.
