knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of creation." 2 Peter 3:3-4 NKJV
Christians who live with the hope of Jesus Christ’s return stand out from the world. The world often considers the church to be full of simple-minded, foolish people.
According to the Got Questions website, “A scoffer is one who not only disagrees with an idea, but he also considers himself an ambassador for the opposing idea. He cannot rest until he has demonstrated the foolishness of any idea not his own.”
Psalm 1:1-2 (ESV) offers the antidote: “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
The world wants nothing to do with Jesus Christ’s coming kingdom. It has been mocking believers for nearly two thousand years, not believing Jesus will ever return. What are you doing to separate yourself from those who scoff? Are you finding ways to meditate on scripture day and night? It’s the only true way to stay grounded in your belief.
Prayer: Lord, help me meditate on Your Word day and night. I understand that this prayer is a call to change my heart. Change it, Lord.
