If we love our Christian brothers and sisters, it proves that we have passed from death to life. But a person who has no love is still dead. 1 John 3:14 NLT
The apostle John didn’t write this letter to any church in particular. Like other general epistles, it is believed to have been circulated among many diverse congregations. In this chapter, John zeroed in on the importance of loving your brothers and sisters in the faith, going so far as to say that when you do so, it is proof of your salvation.
Take an inventory of your love for fellow believers. Are you quick to show up when someone in your congregation or extended faith community is in need? Do you visit them when they are in the hospital? Do you pray for them regularly? Do you know their stories? Their passions? Their fears? Their Dreams? If so, you are living the life John is heralding here. These are evidence that you have the love of Jesus Christ in you.
If you’ve fallen short in loving your fellow believers, do you want to do better? Your “want to” is a good place to start, and even that is evidence of a changed heart. Now is the time to act. Find a need and meet it.
Just the simplest act of love can mean so much.
Prayer: Lord, I could love brothers in Christ better. Show me a specific way to express my love for one of them this week.
