Todays Devotional - Trust in God
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 20:7
I may make myself a little unpopular by admitting not being a football fan but I couldn’t help thinking about the adulation and flattery the players received during the world cup. They may not be chariots and horses but there is a similarity! A better example for today would be how the world puts its trust in the powerful equivalent of tanks, guns and bombs. Over the centuries nothing much has changed when it comes to war except the armoury.
Each of us has a choice every single day - to trust in things of the world
or to trust in God. We all face different battles and we may even feel as if we’re in a war zone at times. If you are facing the bitter experience of prison you need courage to face your days of heartache and fear, but you can also be a prisoner behind invisible bars - a prisoner of your mind and soul. We can create our own prison when we shut out God.
But Jesus Christ can set us free. When we stop trusting in our own particular ‘chariots and horses’ and turn to the love, release and healing that Jesus offers we will be more able to win our own particular battle.
‘And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You’ (Psalm 39:7)

Gracious Lord, forgive me for trusting in everything except You. I turn back to You today and put my trust in the name of the Lord our God. Amen.
