Thank you!

‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God; Philippians 4:6

If you, like me, are a worrier, today’s verses are worth learning - otherwise we’ll probably forget to ‘action’ them! Worrying actually means we don’t fully trust Christ to work for ultimate blessing in a particular situation.

These verses promise ‘the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,’ but there are conditions attached:
One ‘key’ towards not worrying is hidden in the words ‘with thanksgiving’. If we add thanksgiving to our prayers - for blessings already received, for who He is, for His written promises, what He will do, etc, that thankfulness encourages our trust.

‘The Message’ version says:- ‘Don't fret...Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape...worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down.

It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the centre of your life.’

Interestingly, the ‘Sermon On The Mount’ says more about the importance of not worrying than any other subject! Consider birds and field-lilies! Jesus says, Your Father feeds and clothes them and you’re much more precious.

Even Solomon couldn’t achieve the glory of flowers! (Matthew 6:25-34)
Worry actually achieves nothing - (but ulcers!). I know a stressed bank manager who took Jesus’ words seriously, acted on it, and was able to come off medication! Start today by trusting Jesus with your anxieties.

Prayer for today.

Lord, help me remember to trust and thank You in faith, and to ‘cast my cares on You, knowing You care for me’. (1 Peter 5:7).
