“Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more. For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God; and that no man transgress and defraud his brother in the matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you. For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification. So, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you.” (1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 NASB1995)

Did you know that the New Testament Scriptures talk much on this subject of lustful passion, sexual immorality, impurity, idolatry, and adultery? And who are these writings addressed to? Primarily all are addressed to the church, to those who profess faith in Jesus Christ, who believe that heaven is secured for them when they die. And they serve as warnings to them of the consequences of sin. And this is probably not even a complete list:

[Matt 5:27-28; Matt 15:19; Mk 7:21-22; Ac 15:20,29; Ac 21:25; Rom 1:18-32; Rom 13:9,13; 1 Co 5:1-11; 1 Co 6:9-18; 1 Co 7:2; 1 Co 10:8; 2 Co 12:21; Gal 5:16-21; Eph 4:19; Eph 5:3-6; Col 3:5-6; 1 Thess 4:3; 1 Tim 1:10; Heb 12:16; Heb 13:4; 1 Pet 4:3; 2 Pet 2:2,14; Jude 1:4-7; Rev 2:14-22; Rev 9:21; Rev 14:8; Rev 17:2-4; Rev 18:3-9; Rev 21:8; Rev 22:15]

And, if we read these Scriptures in their intended and appropriate context, and if we believe what they are teaching us, we must come to the conclusion that if sin is what we practice, i.e. if we deliberately and habitually sin against the Lord, regardless of what faith in Jesus our lips profess, we will not have salvation from sin and eternal life with God when we die, or when Jesus returns to take his faithful bride to be with him for eternity.

For Jesus Christ did not die on that cross just to forgive us our sins so that we can now go on living in deliberate sin. He died to put our sins to death with him so that by God-gifted and God-persuaded and God-honoring faith in him, which is not of our own doing, we will die to sin and now walk in obedience to his commands in holy living. This is how we are to walk (live in practice) in order to please God. We are to walk in obedience to the Lord.

For the will of God is our sanctification. And to be sanctified is to be made holy. And to be holy means that we are now separate (unlike, different) from the world because we are being conformed to the likeness of character of Jesus Christ, as clay in the hands of The Potter, who is shaping and molding us into who he wants us to be, but only as we are willing to be changed and to be transformed and to be conformed to the likeness of Christ.

For this is the will of God, our sanctification, that is, that we abstain from sexual immorality. So what is sexual immorality? It is any sexual activity outside of marriage, in its various forms. So this can include porn addiction, addiction to any kind of sexually stimulating materials, self-gratification, adultery, deliberately lusting after someone to whom we are not married, romantic or sexual extramarital affairs, homosexuality, and more.

We are to be those who know how to possess our own vessel (body) in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion like the ungodly who do not know God. And we are not to sin against one another in this way, especially that we not steal from another their spouse via an extramarital affair. And this is critical that we understand the importance of this and that we not toy with sin and play with sexual immorality thinking our salvation is secure.

For this is a solemn warning to the church, to all who profess faith in Jesus Christ, who are convinced that heaven is secured for them. For if you reject this warning, and you presume upon God that all your sins are forgiven and so your sexual immorality and adultery won’t matter for eternity, then you need to read the above Scriptures in their context. For the Bible teaches that if sin is our practice, and not obedience to God, we will not inherit eternal life with God. For in so doing, we are rejecting God, which leads to death.

You cannot just make a confession of faith in Jesus Christ and then continue in deliberate and habitual sin against God, in direct defiance of his commands, and not in walks of obedience to his commands, and then go to heaven when you die. For if we are living in prison to sin on this earth, and not in submission to God in surrender to his will, we will not have salvation from sin and eternal life with God. But we will face the wrath of God.

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
