Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12

The ten Boom family worked to help oppressed Jews during the dark days of World War II. They harbored Jewish men, women, and children in hidden spaces in their home. When it was discovered what this family had been doing above their clock-making shop, they were arrested. Eight hundred people had been saved, but four ten Boom family members died for expressing their Christian faith by supporting the oppressed. Corrie ten Boom survived the concentration camps.

Corrie could have been bitter. She could have been angry with God. But Corrie found joy in the hope that God could rescue from such terrible circumstances, she was patient dealing with the worst of conditions suffered at the hands of her captors, and she was faithful in praying for her family and those who dealt with each day’s horrors.

Corrie survived and spent more than three decades allowing today’s verse to be revealed in her life story. That story has encouraged many.
