He struck the water with Elijah's cloak and cried out, "Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?" Then the river divided, and Elisha went across. 2 Kings 2:14 NLT
God has no grandchildren, and you cannot inherit the personal experience of God’s power from a friend. After Elijah was swept to glory in the fiery chariot, it was time for Elisha to move beyond all he had learned from his teacher and trust himself to the Lord alone.
The big question to be answered: Would Elisha continue dwelling on the past glory days of Elijah, or would he be used and blessed by God in a daily powerful way?
Elisha continued the ministry of Elijah, by declaring to Israel that the Lord was God. Through miraculous signs and miracles, he continued to prove that the Lord was infinitely greater than Baal or any other god around. Yet Elisha’s power was not a leftover of Elijah’s, but his own experience of God’s work through him.
Elisha did more than just succeed Elijah in ministry. Though they preached the same message, God showed His power through these two men in different ways. Among other things, God poured out even more miracles through Elisha than he did through Elijah.
Prayer: Lord, I’ve never had an Elijah in my life. Still, I want to experience Your power at work in an through me, please!
