O Lord God, You to Whom vengeance belongs, O God, You to Whom vengeance belongs, shine forth! Rise up, O Judge of the earth; render to the proud a fit compensation! Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph and exult? Psalm 94:1-3 AMPC
Do you ever look at all the sin and injustice going on in the world around you and wonder why God doesn’t just come down and mete out some well-deserved punishment and set things right?
The psalmist who wrote today’s scripture passage seemed to wonder the very same thing. He pointedly asked God how He could allow evil men to continue to prosper and triumph. But he starts out his complaint by acknowledging one important fact: all vengeance belongs to the Lord.
Vengeance for sin and injustice does not belong to us humans. It is in the hands of a God who knows all and who possesses the perfect wisdom it takes to know the right timing in everything He does.
So let God be God—and live unshakably in the knowledge that He has everything under control.
Prayer: Father, I confess that I sometimes wonder why You allow sin and rebellion to continue on—seemingly unchecked. But I recognize that it’s not my job to worry about those things…it’s Yours and Yours along. My job is to remain unshaken by the sin I see around me and to do all I can to bring sinners to You.
