How To hear from God
This is not a comprehensive study, but a general guide line.
Have you ever wanted to hear God concerning a situation or get his direction to make a choice in a all important decision? Sadly, today MOST Christians do not hear the from God and don't even know they are suppose to. They are never taught that in Church and A lot of Churches would think you rather strange if you stood up and said, “Thus saith the Lord thy God............” Some may even ask you to leave.
We see that God has spoken to his people throughout the Bible, and he has not changed today. The problems occur with understanding of the subject. Once you know the truth, then you will be able to start your journey in Hearing from God.
Think about this, If a man had the ability to hear the Lord, then all of his problems would be solved. God has wisdom for every situation no matter how bleak the outcome looks. His wisdom is always in your favor and for those that you love most. It's not that God does not want to tell us something, we are not listening most of the time. I will show some points that will get you started on your way to hear from God, and to get to know him on a personal level. God has lots of things to say to you Today!!!! He has also placed this on my heart for a few days to write this. So I am asking his help in doing so. I am going to break this down in to sections so just read each one.
God firstly speaks to us through his WORD!!!!
I know many Christians that have wanted a personal message form the Lord concerning a situation when His word has already covered the topic. God's written word Always comes before any spiritual experience. Your answer is in the BOOK!!!
2Pe 1:18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
2Pe 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
Peter was with Jesus and had the the most remarkable experiences. He was there when a voice on high said this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. He walked by the sick, and they stood in the presence of his shadow and became healed. If anyone could preach experiences, then Peter would be qualified. However, Peter
said that the Word of God takes presidency over all of these.
Lots of Christians want to hear what God's plan for their life is. Really though, His plan is to stay and continue in his word, Stay connected to other believers, (Heb 10:25) Continue to grow in your love walk. God does have a great plan for you, but you will not find it until you start putting him first in everything and getting his word sown in to you. So, if you want to hear God, then go get your Bible and start reading. Then actually believe what your reading and start walking by faith. As you continue to grow in His Word then be ready for the plan. Remember, before God can show you his great plan, you must prove that you are able to believe him, and keep your love walk. No, use showing you a great plan if it is past your ability to believe that it would even be possible. You own a jet? you own a billion dollar corporation? God has a great plan for everyone, but his plan takes faith as we could never fulfill His plan for our life in our own ability. So, don't fret about what you are to become, stay focused in his word and get stronger in the Lord and the Power of his might everyday. You may not get that great plan yet, because if God gave it to you then you would be responsible to fulfill that plan, unequipped.
God's Word always comes first before any spiritual experience!!!! Keep this in mind as many have gotten into serious error. An angel could show up with trumpets blowing and give you a message from God. If that message contradicts or adds anything to the Word of God then you are to discount all of it!!!!! It's so important that you remember this as the enemy loves to counterfeit God, even to the quoting of scriptures to us.
God only speaks to us according to our Word knowledge:
1Jn 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1Jn 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
God is not going to be able to speak to you about life changing events, unless he can cross reference something you know as truth about his word. He is not the God of confusion. The More word knowledge that is Rhema to you the more the Lord will be able to deal with you on things. (Rhema, Greek for revelation knowledge about God's word given by the Holy Ghost, not just knowing scriptures.) This is the safety check valve so to speak.
I have had Christians come and tell me God told them this or told them that, and I could quote several scriptures that contradicted what they just said. I kept my mouth shut however unless they really were serious asking me about it. They, got in error because the freely accepted something without checking up on it in the scriptures. We are to try the spirits, and unless a real live kicking spirit shows up in front of you then you will not get a chance to ask it if Jesus came in the flesh. (There is a reason for this , and why this is an important question to ask, but I won't explain it here.) However, most the time we don't have a real live kicking spirit in front of us. We have people talking that are motivated by wrong spirits or it may be something you thought God said to you. Just remember, the WORD became flesh. The word!!! What is said must be lined up with the Word of God!!!
There are times I thought for sure I heard form God, but I will pray about it and ask the Holy Ghost to bring scriptures to my remembrance so that I can compare. There are a number of times that I found what I thought I heard from the Lord was not scripture, so it was time to throw it away. You will always stay on track if you remember this........
God speaks to us by Faith!!!:
Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
God is a faith God. Your not going to hear anything from God if you believe you don't have the ability to hear his voice. Jesus said that you as a Ba Ba sheep will hear him. He need you to hear his direction so that you may follow him. The Bible gives us everything we need to be Christians, but each plan for every life is different.
I have corrected many (I do mean many) Christians that confess that they just don't hear God, or God won't speak to them. That's not what the scripture said. Get that junk out of your mouth, out of your thinking, out of your heart. YOU HEAR FROM GOD!!!! Christians love to say things like God will not put you through more than you can bare, or he will always make a way. Listen, He does that by you following him out of the situation. You must trust that he is more than able to get direction to you, He is never late. NEVER!!!!
(Story)
One time my son got extremely sick. My wife called form the hospital and said that they can't get his fever to go down. He had 4 different viral infections and 3 of them were deadly. At the time he was going though Chemotherapy (another testimony) and had a port put into his arm to administer treatments. The Doctors checked the port first and ran test to make sure it was not infected. My wife asked me to ask God, because it was not looking very good. So I went and started to pray in tongues. I was seeking God's wisdom. The Lord spoke and told me to Demand from the doctors that they check his port again. So, I called my wife and told her that the problem is my sons port and to demand they recheck it. She told the doctors to recheck the port, but they insisted that the port was fine. She got bold with them so they actually took the port out of his arm to test. Sure enough, that was the problem.
Another time I was driving a big semi truck and made a wrong turn in Cincinnati getting stuck in a residential area. I could not go forward very far without removing some power lines and did not have very much room on both sides. I always hear form God, so I said, “Lord, I need you help getting out of hear.” I knew to just wait and get quit. Then the Lord spoke. (A voice inside. More on that in a bit.) He said go forward and take the 2nd left. So I did, and hardly made the turn. I ended up going down an ally with a bush on one side and building on the next. I had inches of space on both sides. This did not look good because I could not see what was at the end. However, following God it is not important how it looks. The end opened up into a large parking lot that connected back to a main street I could drive on.
We must have faith that we hear from God. Never confess that God is not talking to you. He wants to talk to you about even the most little things in your life. It takes time to develop your spirit to hear from God and to know what is God and what is not God. In time though, through stepping out to obey, you will be able to hear him perfectly.
Say this to yourself always. I Always hear from God, He is ready to direct me in every situation and is never late.
God speaks to us through our seemer: listen to the stops and go's
Isa 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
How many times have you thought of something but just brushed it off as it would have cost a little more work, only to find out that you should have gone and just taken care of it? How, many times have you thought to call someone, or go somewhere, or clean something up, or move something so it won't get knocked over, but ignored this and wish that you would have gone with your first thought?
God's main way of speaking to us is through our seemer. What is our seemer? It is things that seem right, or seem wrong. It just seems like we should do or not do it. It is that word inside of you that says, go left or go right. It is normally about information that you already have just gotten. We need to develop in this as most Christians just ignore these things. God's direction is usually not spectacular, but just that small check inside you that tells you to stop or go. Most of the time it is a left or right, a yes or no check. Pick that up, clean that, go there, do dishes, check time, ETC........ Well, This is God a lot of the times but we have not developed enough to pick these up with our mind and take actions. The Holy Ghost is always talking to us this way and is the main way we are to be led by the Spirit of God. Never go against your seemer!!!! If something just does not seem right or you have a small stop in your heart then you need to STOP!!!! If you have missed a bunch of these don't fret. You can start trying to follow them today.
Act 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
Act 15:25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
Never be led by natural things. There may be two jobs, on job you have to shovel cow poop for six dollars an hour, and the other job you get a desk with an office and make 25.00 dollars an hour. However, your getting a check to take the cow poop job and not the other. Something just seems wrong with the office job, but you are not getting a check about the cow poop job. Most Christians would take the office job anyway based on a lot of natural things and miss God. Missing God this way can take you off the path and put you through things God never intended you to go though. God sees the bigger picture. In just 10 years, the owner of that cow poop job may hand you over his whole operations making you very wealthy. Of course you will never know if you disobeyed your seemer.
Most Christians just leave their church for a better job somewhere, or take long trips without checking in with the Holy Ghost first. Christians are lead by natural things or what looks better and this gets a lot of them killed or way off the path. Check your heart constantly, and see what your picking up. Do you have the green light or you have a yellow, not so sure check. Everything you do must be by faith. Don't do things that your not fully convinced yourself on. Stop and check. Take some time to pray.
