“O that You would slay the wicked, O God;
Depart from me, therefore, men of bloodshed.
For they speak against You wickedly,
And Your enemies take Your name in vain.
Do I not hate those who hate You, O Lord?
And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?
I hate them with the utmost hatred;
They have become my enemies.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way.” (Psalm 139:19-24 NASB1995)

As followers of Jesus Christ, if our lives are surrendered to God to do his will, and so we are verbal about our walks of faith in the Lord Jesus and our testimonies for him and for his gift of salvation from sin, we will be opposed. And if we are speaking the truth in love with regard to the gospel message, and not the lies which are presently so popular, we will have enemies who are the enemies of the cross of Christ who will persecute us. And those enemies could be within the church gatherings, and they could be pastors.

And, although we might hope that they would leave us alone, and that they would not persecute us, reject us, cast us aside as unwanted, and treat us as though we are the enemy, yet under the New Covenant which God has with his people, we are not to hate anyone, even the vilest of them all. But we are to love our enemies, and pray for them, and do good to them, and say to them what is beneficial for them, by God’s definition. But we should hate the evil that they do, especially done in the name of Jesus Christ.

We should be opposed to all evil, especially evil done in the name of God. And we should expose all evil for what it is, especially the evil disguised as good and righteous and of God. And much of that evil comes in the form of deliberate lies being taught as truth for the full purpose to deceive, to manipulate, and to twist the truth in order to fool many people into rejecting the truth of the gospel in favor of the lies. And these lies (half-truths) need to be exposed for what they are to spare people’s lives from hell.

So, it is not only critical that we are getting the truth of the gospel of Christ out to the people, but that we are also refuting the lies being taught in the name of Christ and his gospel. For many people are buying into the lies and they are believing that they can make a verbal profession of faith in Jesus Christ and now all their sins are forgiven, and heaven is guaranteed them when they die, but while they continue in deliberate and habitual sin, and while they refuse to obey our Lord and his commands (New Covenant).

But..

Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

And..

By God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience is what we obey, it results in sanctification and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

And..

The grace of God, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for Jesus’ return. For Christ “gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (See Titus 2:11-14; Ephesians 2:8-10)

So, we should also be those who are willing to have God search our own hearts, and to have God show us what is in our hearts and in our thoughts, and if there be any evil way or hurtful way in us which needs to be corrected and done away with. And then, with good consciences, when we have obeyed the Lord, we can be messengers for the Lord in sharing the truth of the gospel, and in refuting the enemy’s lies. And we must accept that we will be opposed and persecuted for our testimonies for Christ and his gospel.

It Will Be Worth It All

By Esther Kerr Rusthoi (1909-1962)

Sometimes the day seems long, our trials hard to bear,
We're tempted to complain, to murmur and despair;
But Christ will soon appear to catch His Bride away,
All tears forever over in God's eternal day.

Sometimes the sky looks dark with not a ray of light,
We're tossed and driven on , no human help in sight;
But there is one in heav'n who knows our deepest care,
Let Jesus solve your problem - just go to Him in prayer.

Life's day will soon be o'er, all storms forever past,
We'll cross the great divide, to glory, safe at last;
We'll share the joys of heav'n - a harp, a home, a crown,
The tempter will be banished; we'll lay our burden down.

It will be worth it all when we see Jesus,
Life's trials will seem so small when we see Christ;
One glimpse of His dear face all sorrow will erase,
So bravely run the race till we see Christ.
