“Come, let us worship and bow down,
Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For He is our God,
And we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand.
Today, if you would hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,
As in the day of Massah in the wilderness,
‘When your fathers tested Me,
They tried Me, though they had seen My work.
For forty years I loathed that generation,
And said they are a people who err in their heart,
And they do not know My ways.
Therefore I swore in My anger,
Truly they shall not enter into My rest.’” (Psalm 95:6-11 NASB1995)

It is not enough to just profess faith in Jesus Christ with our lips, and to do good deeds, and to attend weekly gatherings of the church, if we end up being like the majority of the Israelites who wandered in the wilderness, who refused to submit to God and to his commands, and who committed willful, defiant, deliberate, and habitual sin against the Lord, and against other humans. For, because of their rebellion and their refusal to repent of their wicked ways, they died. And they did not get to enter into God’s eternal rest.

And these things are written down for us as an example to us as to what we are not to do, and to what we are to do if we want to enter into that rest and into eternal life with God. We are not to be idolaters, revelers, drunkards, the sexually immoral, nor those who test the Lord via rebellion, nor those who grumble against God because they don’t like the way he is doing things, or because he is not moving fast enough for their approval. But we are to die to sin daily and to walk (in conduct) in obedience to our Lord’s commands.

So, instead of just making a profession of faith in the Lord Jesus, but then going about life however you want to live it, we need to be people of God who bow to him and to his sovereignty and his control and authority over our lives. And we need to worship him as our Lord (Owner-Master). And worship is not with lip service only, but it is in giving our lives over to God as living sacrifices to him, holy and pleasing to him, which is our acceptable worship of him, no longer conformed to the sinful patterns of the world.

So, if you hear God speaking to your heart through the Scriptures, and/or through the testimonies of others of genuine faith in the Lord who are speaking the truth, and not the lies, do not harden your hearts as the majority of the Israelites did in the wilderness who then sinned against God and who would not repent of their wicked ways. But yield control of your life over to the Lord, submit to him as Lord, die with him to sin, and now walk in obedience to his commands, by God’s grace through God-gifted faith in him.

For…

By God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.” Acts 16:25 NIV ‘84

Lord, I praise You forevermore.
You, my Savior, I now adore.
Hope in heaven awaiting me,
Because You died at Calvary.

I have been forgiven,
And I’m bound for heaven.
Jesus set me free from
All my sin, I say.
I will praise Him always!

Lord, I love You for all You’ve done:
Overcame death, my vict’ry won!
Jesus saved me, and now I’m free!
I rejoice in His love for me.

I will walk in vict’ry!
My sin is but hist’ry!
I am free to please Him
With my life today.
I will love Him always!

Lord, I thank You for giving me
A new life bought at Calvary.
Loving Jesus, I meet with Him.
Tender mercies now flow within.

Lord, I am so thankful;
Through my Lord, I’m able
To sit at His table;
Fellowship with Him.
I will thank Him always!
