Were they ashamed when they committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed; they did not know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time that I punish them, they shall be overthrown," says the LORD. Jeremiah 6:15 ESV
Today’s verse is a sobering one—a warning for those who not only have committed abomination (a vile act) but who were so far gone that they no longer even knew how to blush. As a result, they were to be counted as unbelievers. This was probably a reference to false prophets and wicked priests who were leading people astray.
First Timothy 4:1-2 says that people who devote themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons end up with a “seared” conscience. They have a false sense of comfort. It’d be like not having any feeling in your arm, so when you set it against a hot grill, you wouldn’t feel thing; therefore, you wouldn’t feel the need to remove it. The subsequent effects would be devastating to your skin. The same can be said for sin.
When you stop fighting against your sinful nature, you’ll slowly lose the ability to blush or feel guilty. When that happens, you are in danger. Never allow yourself to get to that point.
Prayer: Lord, never allow me to take my sin lightly. May I always be sensitive to the Spirit’s conviction and quick to repent.
