Judging

Hello everyone,

I was recently reading Corinthians and not long into it did Paul start talking about judging. I was always taught not to judge and that judging is bad and such. But aparently God says different.

"But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man." Cor 2:15

Now this seems to say, we whom are spiritual, can judge all men but they cannot judge us. ???????

Next verse

" But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from yourselfs that wicked person. " Cor 5:13

The previous verse said " for what i have i to do to judgeth them that are without "

So it seems that he says that judge those that are without God.

Last verse

" Know ye not that we shall judge angels? How much more things pertain to this life. " Cor 6:3

So aparently we are not only to judge those that are without God but we will also judge angels?

Can anyone please help me understand this better?

God Bless and many Hugs:boy_hug:

Great thread topic. Let me see if I can figure this out without shooting directly to the resources (but a good thing otherwise). The judging of those who are not believers and judging angels, if I'm not mistaken means on judgment (or sometime after). We as believers, saved and then (after we are are given a Christ-like glorified body) will judge those who will be thrown into the pit (hell).

On earth...we are to not judge people in the negative sense such as being accusing with no motive or point to help someone for their sake (which would be done out of love and care, concern for that person). If we judge in the negative, we're simply pointing fingers as if we're better and in a foolish way, as if we're sinless (somewhat).

Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Geneva Bible Study
2:15 {14} But he that is spiritual {r} judgeth all things, yet {15} he himself is judged of {s} no man.

(14) He amplifies the matter by opposites.

(r) Understands and discerns.

(15) The wisdom of the flesh, Paul says, determines nothing certainly, no not in its own affairs, much less can it discern strange, that is, spiritual things. But the Spirit of God, with which spiritual men are endued, can by no means be deceived, and therefore be reproved by any man.

(s) Of no man: for when the prophets are judged of the prophets, it is the Spirit that judges, and not the man.

People's New Testament
2:15 He that is spiritual. He who lives the spiritual life.

Judgeth all things. Examineth, in the margin of the Revised Version. The spiritual man, helped by the indwelling Spirit, is prepared to study the deeper truths of the Spirit.

Yet he himself is judged of no man. None who are not spiritual are able to sit in judgment upon his higher life. He is on a higher level, and the animal man, from his lower level, cannot well estimate him.

Wesley's Notes
2:15 But the spiritual man - He that hath the Spirit. Discerneth all the things of God whereof we have been speaking. Yet he himself is discerned by no man - No natural men. They neither understand what he is, nor what he says.

Matthew Henry's Commentary
2:10-16 God has revealed true wisdom to us by his Spirit. Here is a proof of the Divine authority of the Holy Scriptures, 2Pe 1:21. In proof of the Divinity of the Holy Ghost, observe, that he knows all things, and he searches all things, even the deep things of God. No one can know the things of God, but his Holy Spirit, who is one with the Father and the Son, and who makes known Divine mysteries to his church. This is most clear testimony, both to the real Godhead and the distinct person of the Holy Spirit. The apostles were not guided by worldly principles. They had the revelation of these things from the Spirit of God, and the saving impression of them from the same Spirit. These things they declared in plain, simple language, taught by the Holy Spirit, totally different from the affected oratory or enticing words of man's wisdom. The natural man, the wise man of the world, receives not the things of the Spirit of God.

The pride of carnal reasoning is really as much opposed to spirituality, as the basest sensuality. The sanctified mind discerns the real beauties of holiness, but the power of discerning and judging about common and natural things is not lost. But the carnal man is a stranger to the principles, and pleasures, and actings of the Divine life. The spiritual man only, is the person to whom God gives the knowledge of his will. How little have any known of the mind of God by natural power! And the apostles were enabled by his Spirit to make known his mind. In the Holy Scriptures, the mind of Christ, and the mind of God in Christ, are fully made known to us. It is the great privilege of Christians, that they have the mind of Christ revealed to them by his Spirit. They experience his sanctifying power in their hearts, and bring forth good fruits in their lives.

Praise Jesus!!! Lion of Judah!!!!!

Do not judge! Is the first line of defense for all those who are seen bearing bad fruit (sin).

those who observe this fact publicly (bad fruit) will often be castigated with the "do not judge" mantra. Particularly if the one bearing bad fruit is a pastor or other church leader (suffer not to harm the Lords annointed?)

So what does scripture say about this judging?

Joh 7:24 "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment."

It says to judge righteously. It does not say do not judge.

How do we judge righteously?

Mt 7:5 "Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Dont be guilty of what you accuse others (hypocrite). Get the plank out of my eye. (Be righteous)
Then i may address the speck in anothers eye.

How do we deal with this bearer of bad fruit?

1co 5:11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner-not even to eat with such a person.
1co 5:12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside?
1co 5:13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore "put away from yourselves the evil person."

Yet with these judgments we must not stand in the place of God. If we do we will be dealt with in the same manner.

Lu 6:36 "Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.
Lu 6:37 "Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

We must be merciful but honest and righteous in our judgments. Praying for restoration of the one who bears bad fruit. Do not condemn that is the place of Christ.

Finally i must say we live in a time (end of days?) when it is more important than ever to know what and why we believe. To follow only true shepherds. We must respond only to the voice of the true Shepherd Jesus.

The Lord warns us quite clearly in Matthew 24 that the most dangerous thing for His disciples in these last days IS DECEPTION AND BEING DECEIVED. The world is full of those pointing to a false Jesus and preaching a deceptive and worldly (false) gospel. Times are so perilous that even the very elect might be deceived.

We can not abide in Christ and Him in us nor can we stand firm to the end LEST WE LEARN AND USE RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT.

Matthew 4:17

kind of funny how cor 5:11 that you mentioned said not to be with those kind of people and not even to eat with them when Jesus came and ate with them for he said he came for the sinners not the rightous.

So i get from your response to judge rightously after we ourselves are free from that we judge?

Thanks for your response to my post

Praise Jesus!!

Hi! CfC ! i think if you read the whole passage in Corinthians you will see that Paul is talking about someone who calls himself a brother (church member) . This would be the same as a disciple of Jesus'. i don't think that Jesus would have tolerated such immorality from one of HIS own.

And yes we must be have an honest view of ourselves and free of sin and bondage in order to judge righteously. Otherwise we are hypocrits.

Matthew 4:17

1 Corinthians 4:5
Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

I believe there is a time for final judgement, Matt. 7:1 tells us not to judge on earth but there will definately be a time for that.
