I just got a John Macarthur Study Bible NKJV. Then today i just heard that there are some interesting beliefs that he holds about the Holy Spirit not being active or something? Does anyone know anything about this? Do i need to be careful with what I'm reading? I thought that he was very trustworthy. What do I need to know about this? I don't want to be misled by his commentaries if they are wrong.

A quick answer is that he is a strong Calvinist. There are three general views on the subject. Calvinist, Arminian, and for the vast majority of Christians, neither one. As such his views do tend to go very pro-Calvin when on such subjects as predestination and other Calvinist positions. He can tend to ignore what the verse says in favor of what he would like it to say. I read part of a commentary of his on Hebrews, about the temple equipment. His entire commentary on the chapter never mentioned or discussed a single piece of the equipment the chapter talked about. While what he said in that commentary was perfectly Christian, he could have written it without ever looking at the Hebrews chapter he was supposed to be commenting on.
So yes, while he can be good at times, do use discernment. That is why you should never use just one commentary, but look at several.
