John: Brother 0f James.
....James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother.-----Mattew 10:2d
John revealed a heart of love and compassion throughout his teaching of truth. The apostle continually took Jesus` love and continually gave it out. John was so identified with Christ`s love that he called himself the disciple "whom Jesus loved' (jN 13:23,19:26;20:2;21:7,20). There was know greater honor could have claimed for himself.
According to tradition, John didn`t leave Jersusalem until Jesus` mother Mary had died. That`s based on Christ`s first entrusting Mary into the apostle`s care (John 19:26). Jesus knewthat John`s special and sincer kind of love would caus him to treat Mary as his own mother.
Ten truths contained in John`s sacred writtings best summarize his teaching on love:
1. God is love; 1Jn4:8
2. God loves His Son Jn3:35
3. Christ loves the Father; Jn14:35
4. God loved the disciples; Jn17:23
5. God loves all people; Jn3:16
6. Christ loved the disciples; Jn13:34
7. Christ loves all believers; 1Jn3:1
8. Christ commands everyone to love Him; Jn14:15
9. Believers are to love one another; Jn13:34
10.And love fulfills all the commandments; 1Jn5:3
In the end the authorities exiled John to the barren island of Patomos (Rev 1:9) off the west coast of Asia Minor. Those who knew John could not help but remember him best by his signature admonition, "My little children. love one another" (1Jn4:11)
Ask yourself; The primacy of love is everywhere championed and proclaimed in the Scripture. So why isn`t it as evident as it should be among God`s people? What areas of the church are in the most need of love in practice? What aspect of your own life need its warmth and strength?
Amen
