Pastor Reinhard Bonnke one day was preaching regarding this portion and I felt like sharing this with you.
So let us look at John 8:1-11.
John 8:3-6
Verse 3: As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and Pharisees brought a woman they had caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.
Verse 4:“Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the very act of adultery.
Verse 5*The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”
The pharisees brought a woman and accused her infront of Jesus in the temple. First let us look at the situation of this woman.
The pharisees condenmed her and according to the law, she deserves to be stoned to death. So, you can say that she is in an absolutely hopeless situation.
But Jesus, He wanted to save her, not to condemn her. But there's a problem.
Now let us look into the kind of motives the Pharisees had.
When the Pharisees said to Him, "What do you say?", if He had to say yes, there is a problem. If He had to say no, there is another problem.
If Jesus had to say yes, according to the law of Moses she should be stoned to death. The Pharisees would have brought Him under Roman Jurisdiction and He would have been executed for making independent decisions.
If Jesus had to say no (remember Jesus wanted to save the woman), the pharisees would have said, look Jesus has contradicted the Law of Moses. So, He's not the Messiah, let us stone Him to death.
Now let us look at what Jesus said.
John 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her.
He that is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone.
Now let us look a little bit more into this. Now this woman was caught in adultery in the very act. But the man who sinned with this woman, was not brought by the pharisees, why? The answer, is quite simple, "The man must be a pharisee.", otherwise the man also would have been accused by the pharisees.
Now look how the pharisees have hid the real truth and made it appear in the temple like as if they were so righteous. Jesus knows this very well. That is why He said, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her."
John 8:9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
All these pharisees were put to shame, because they were proved guilty by their conscience. They couldn't bear it, they walked away.
Jesus could have very well, stoned her to death, He had every right to do it, but He didn't. He came to save us, not to condemn us.
Dear friends, I want you to know, no matter what your situation might be, God cares for you. Even if many people condemn you, God is not a God who condemns, but a God who forgives, a God who saves, a God who heals and a God who rescues.
So, just trust in Him, because He cares for you, and He is capable of forgiving you, no matter how badly you've gone astray.
