Job 15:1-3 King James Version (KJV)
15 Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
2 Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?

Eliphaz Speaks

15 Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:

2 Does a wise man answer with empty counsel
or fill himself with the hot east wind?
3 Should he argue with useless talk
or with words that serve no good purpose?

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

1 Eliphaz the Temanite speaks his mind on this; he doesn’t really know Job but chooses to share what he thinks. We may have to deal with people like him we face hard times.

2 He is saying that he has to say something because he is wise. The wise often listen then to speak, true wise people what for proper to time to share or when people ask them. This man loved hearing his words and enjoyed thinking his was wise. Wise don’t speak on things they don’t fully know.

3 Job didn’t claim to be wise at this point and he was trying to understand what God was letting happen to him and then his friends attacked him and he defended himself against their attack. It isn’t unwise to defend ourseleves but wisdom discerns when it is helpful or harmful.
