Job 14:18-20

Job 14:18-20 King James Version (KJV)

18 And surely the mountains falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.
19 The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.
20 Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

Job 14:18-20 Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

18 But as a mountain collapses and crumbles
and a rock is dislodged from its place,
19 as water wears away stones
and torrents wash away the soil from the land,
so you destroy a man’s hope.
20 You completely overpower him, and he passes on;
you change his appearance and send him away.

18 We today see earthquakes change land almost instantly, Job may have not known this, to him it may have been legends, we also know of landslides and hurricanes and tornadoes that destroy land but today we also have machines that can move dirt and land from mountains although this takes more time.

19 The Grand Canyon was said to be formed because of water bursting through it. Water can cause much destruction; houses can loose their foundations in floods. Land can practically be washed away by water; Job could have here been referring back to the flood.

20 Job view of God is starting to be a mean judge, in his situation he can’t see the love of God, this isn’t a place we want to be but Job still wouldn’t turn from the Lord, no matter what we face we should serve the Lord but we should also find our joy in His love.
