In his way [the way of a man] in a measure Joab remained loyal to David, his king, but should he have when he realized what David was doing? To me scripture makes it clear that Joab knew exactly what David was doing and knew it was wrong. Recall here Paul's words:

"Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ." I Cor 11:1

Some people will say that Paul spoke after the sacrifice and resurrection and the day of Pentecost in Acts 2, but our God has never changed. Loyalty can be a good thing, but can it be so in the pursuit of an evil purpose?

Joab was apparently a good general, but he was a selfish man who never it seems really had a heart for God. His king on the other hand with several serious faults described in scripture, always had a heart toward God.

David effectively murdered a man in order to clean up his adultery. Wnen confronted by the prophet with the crimes, both punishable by death, David was ready to receive his punishment. God forgave him and he was allowed to live on... David did repent,

Joab murdered the man appointed by King David as his replacement as general of the army. Joab never repented of that. Eventually he was punished for his crime.

That my dear sir is my short term memory failing me again.
really, boy is that right..are you serious sir, did u really forget.....but your retention of God's ways are indelible

anyway, i was keen enough to read it...and i concur...repentance, heart for God...are the deciders. another illustration of this is how many pillars like Abram, Jacob do polgamy/lie

this portion tells me to not follow evil errors in leaders, but non-evil/trivial errors can be ignored.

We should not purposely I believe ignore anyone, but sometimes it will happen as we know from our own experience. Sometimes I have been so absorbed in my own problems or selfish interests that I have needlessly and callously hurt another person. God will overlook these things if our heart is right. Of course, when we become aware of the problem we caused we must do whatever we can to make it right.

The old man is dying no matter how hard I may work to keep him alive and well. The new man, on the other hand, if properly fed will never die, rather he will grow stronger in the things of God. This is not the work of me alone. When it is done right it is due to paying attention to the lead of the Holy Spirit in me. So then, give God the glory!

We cannot serve God beyond where we are at the moment. The "good" thief on the cross undoubtedly did not have much in the of good experiences with and knowledge of God, but at the end of the matter, he did very well with what time he had left nonetheless.

i feel you are too lenient on those pillars...they should of known better. Their circumstances is no excuse for compromised/blatant errors. Even if i was face-to-face with them now, i would say "how could you!"

Of course you may be right, but without having all of the facts, who is in a position to make a righteous judgment of them? Even your remark, "how could you!" could be construed as a question. God doesn't have to ask such questions and receive men's answers to know the answers, does He? Shouldn't I therefore be lenient until I know from God that I should be otherwise? Remember that sometimes the most important facts are not what we can perceive with the 5 natural senses, but what is in a man's heart. On this it is that men are judged in the end of a matter.

[QUOTE="amadeus2, i appreciate your gracious answer to me. it tells me, that you, even though your pilgrimmage could tempt you to be unteachable by a man like (a man of less years and less journeys), you respond submissively.

"When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted." Luke 14:8-11
