"There Is No “Jezebel Spirit” – Let’s Talk About What the Bible Really Says
In the New Testament, the name Jezebel is used symbolically in Revelation 2 to describe a woman in the church at Thyatira who is accused of leading others into immorality and idolatry, drawing a comparison to the historical Jezebel. The name "Jezebel" has since become synonymous with a wicked, power-hungry, and immoral woman, often used as a derogatory term. Some modern interpretations suggest her portrayal may reflect a broader biblical discomfort with powerful women who defy patriarchal authority, and her "sin" may have been her refusal to yield power and her defiance of male rulers."

Do you think Jezebel is "alive and well" Today?

And if so ...

How could the "spirit of Jezebel" affect us Today?

Do you have any thoughts on Modern Day "Jezebel"?

Do you have any stories (closer to Home) that you could share, about a "Jezebel"?

Who Was Jezebel?

  • Origin: Jezebel was a Phoenician princess, the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians. She married King Ahab, who ruled the northern kingdom of Israel.
  • Religion: She was a devout worshiper of Baal, a Canaanite storm and fertility god, and Asherah, a goddess often associated with Baal worship.

Why Was Jezebel Considered Evil?

Jezebel's reputation for evil stems from several key actions and traits described in the biblical narrative:

  1. Promotion of Idolatry:
    • She actively promoted the worship of Baal and Asherah in Israel, leading Ahab and many Israelites away from worshiping Yahweh.
    • She supported hundreds of prophets of Baal and Asherah, while persecuting the prophets of Yahweh.
  2. Persecution of Prophets:
    • Jezebel ordered the killing of Yahweh’s prophets, forcing many to go into hiding.
    • She became a direct enemy of Elijah, the prophet who challenged Baal worship and called down fire from heaven in a dramatic contest on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18).
  3. The Naboth Incident:
    • Jezebel orchestrated the false accusation and execution of Naboth, a man who refused to sell his vineyard to Ahab.
    • She used deceit and manipulation to seize the land for her husband, showing a blatant disregard for justice and the law.
  4. Defiance and Pride:
    • Even after Elijah prophesied her downfall, Jezebel remained defiant.
    • Her death was violent and symbolic: she was thrown from a window, trampled by horses, and eaten by dogs (2 Kings 9), fulfilling Elijah’s prophecy.

Legacy and Symbolism

  • Jezebel became a symbol of idolatry, immorality, and manipulation in later biblical texts.
  • In the Book of Revelation (2:20), the name "Jezebel" is used metaphorically to describe a corrupting influence within the church.

I have watched her in action..

Maybe it's you who can't see perhaps??

I mean if your that accustomed to half dressed little girls n woman if it's the norm for you to hear your preacher to tell woman to dress up to attract men into a building to get cash for speaking the Bible then I could see why your blind to it .

My nan use to say if it could get any closer to you it's bite you on your face.. when I would look for something..

Have you taken counsel with our Creator on these things you speak about or do you lean on your own feelings n understanding?..

I ask because well we don't know each other n I don't know your way in the Lord .

But anywho hope all's well with ya

Could Jezebel's Spirit be around today, causing havoc amongst families?

Hi Twistie, your reply is implying that you are addressing me personally about not being able to see
I do not understand why you are launching an "attack" on me, when I am trying to start a "discussion" about the "spirit of Jezebel" and "whether she is alive and well today"
I do not need to have counsel with Creator, and feel that your assumptions are misguided!
Thanks, but not thanks to the way you have made assumptions, especially about my walk with Father God!?

I do not understand why you call it an attack Lord tells His children to test all spirits am I to assume your not a temple dwellers or that you spend no time with the Lord? Am I supposed to magically some how know your walk of life just because you pop up on a Christian site? Have we ever conversed before?? Should I know you some how or some way??.

Are questions now what some people called attacks??

I'm just curious I'm wondering why you have passed judgement on me??

Twistie, perhaps you should re-read my thread and the questions ... make note of the inverted commas in the context
Re-read your reply to me
Why would anyone want to answer to you about your personal questions about their walk with God?
There are better ways to get to know someone, and better ways to converse ... A GOOD start would be to start with introducing YOURSELF!?
Re-read and see how you could have improved your response in the first place, without putting someone off side!

Spirits affecting people is very real, but I don't share the opinion that they have names and specific types of influence: meaning if you can identify someone similar to a Jezebel or an Ahab, or a Sampson, or a Laban, or a Jacob.. (Yes, even the "righteous" men of the OT had types of personality problems and made predictable errors.) then it is not necessarily a demon. It could also be their own personality and interests. -now keep in mind, for the demon to continue to have power and influence over a person, it needs to give the person what they want.

A classic Jezebel today is going to be a demon possessed BPD person. Yes they absolutely exist, and i've seen the marriages fall apart. In one case, a deliverance minister A married a woman introduced to him by his friend deliverance minister B. As soon as A mentioned "Jezebel" spirit, i uh, didn't have much hope for his competence or ability to get control of the situation.

When the marriage started getting rough and A realized his wife had a demon, he went to B.. who told him "yes i saw it in her when i introduced her to you" Personally I don't have any insight into what it would take for A to successfully take authority over the spiritual state of his wife and kick the demon out.. otherwise i would have told him.

But I do know another guy whos wife fell away from God, and tried to take the kids with her, but a year later he married another woman and by some act of God, his ex wife came close to being friends with his wife.

Look at how most women dress.
Sweatpants. Shirts that don't fit.
Bottoms with words written on the butt.
Straps so thin a slight breeze could break them.
Bra and underwear showing.
Little to NO modesty.

If she dresses like a ****/***** then she is one.

Sometimes it is the subtle using of the body (poses, bearing more flesh than is necessary or "normal" and "innocently" in someone's face, almost childlike)
Wonder what the difference is between a split personality (bi-polar maybe) and a possessed person ...
Sudden mood swings ... very manipulative and blaming in one breath and sweet as pie in the next (within a couple of hours : )
Maybe this question is more for a Phychology Forum : ) : ) : )

Society has taught/told women that showing off their bodies even if more clothed is "strong, independent, powerful, etc."
It's not.
Knowing what I do from being married and NOT being a Christian years back, I do NOT want a woman like my ex. Long story.
Women can dress modestly and will turn good men's heads toward a (hopeful) God centered relationship for both.

I'm finding many times it's the only way they know to get attention regardless if it is negative or positive..it's attention.. some especially from the inner cities have no man around in their life from birth to adulthood to show n guide them in how to be a respectful lady..it's why children are killing children in the inner cities I mean it's been going on for yrs but now the population of the fatherless have grown n the music that many listen to promotes promiscuity and pimping along with alot of other evils

Jesus never says that Jezebel has a spirit, or that a Jezebel spirit haunts or roams the earth. Jezebel was a real person in the Old Testament (1 Kings 16:31–33, 21:25). A woman in the church at Thyatira was compared to her in Revelation 2: 20 because she was leading people into sexual sin and idolatry. The passage does not teach about a Jezebel spirit or demon. The name Jezebel is being used figuratively. It is a comparison. Just as the Old Testament Jezebel corrupted Israel, this woman was corrupting the church.

Is Jezebel “alive and well” today? In the sense that a type of spiritual attitude is still found in people, yes. The sins that Jezebel was guilty of, idolatry, immorality, rebelling against God’s authority, and leading others to follow her, are still alive and well today because sin is still alive and well today. Scripture warns us about these works of the flesh (Galatians 5: 19–21), not some special “Jezebel spirit.” We must guard against anyone, male or female, who twists God’s Word, who promotes sexual sin, or who encourages idolatry just as Jezebel did.

The danger today is not some mystical spirit roaming about with Jezebel’s name, but false teachers and worldly influences that lead God’s people into compromise. Scripture is clear: “Let no man deceive you with vain words” (Ephesians 5:6). We are to “mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them” (Romans 16:17).

So the modern “Jezebel” is anyone who rejects God’s authority, promotes sin, and tries to corrupt others, whether in the church, in our culture, or even close to home. The call for us is the same as Jesus gave to Thyatira: repent of tolerating sin and hold fast to the truth of His Word (Revelation 2:21–25).

Jesus and the Disciples used people, places, and things of those times to teach everyone especially lay people something.
It's Speech 101. Tailor your script to your audience and for the future.
Jezebel in most 1st world countries would be a sexualized, non-Christian woman and even some "Christian" ones.

MedicoBravo,
Would you please elaborate on "It's Speech 101. Taylor your script to your audience and for the future" ...?
Thanks Linda

I have a lot of experience in Medicine.
If I were to explain or share something using all the medical/latin words and other advanced things to a group of non-Medical people I'd probably lose every person.
If I change the wording to lay terms and explain/expand on something that needs to be said, I will teach and gain those same people.

if I go to listen to someone on something and it's geared to ward those hin Medicine I will not waste my time.
If I go to listen to some "expert" in a field and he/she is speaking above lay terms I'll leave.
