Relatives of Soldier Killed in Afghanistan Decry Lack of Coverage Amid Jackson Spectacle [Excerpts]

A day before New York Rep. Peter King called Michael Jackson a "pervert" unworthy of nonstop media coverage, the aunt of a U.S. soldier killed in Afghanistan on the same day Jackson died asked why her nephew's death went virtually unnoticed while the King of Pop got memorial shrines across the country.

"Mr. Jackson received days of wall-to-wall coverage in the media," Martha Gillis wrote to the Washington Post. "Where was the coverage of my nephew or the other soldiers who died that week?"

Gillis' nephew, Lt. Brian Bradshaw, 24, died in Kheyl, Afganistan, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Bradshaw, of Steilacoom, Wash., was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division in Fort Richardson, Alaska. He was one of at least 13 U.S. soldiers to die in Afghanistan since Jackson's death on June 25.

Bradshaw's mother, Mary, said she agreed with Gillis, saying the nonstop coverage of Jackson's death has become "totally ridiculous" and laughable.

"I can watch the news many nights and there's no mention of what's going on in Afghanistan or Iraq and there's boys dying over there," Bradshaw told FOXNews.com.

(Miller, Fox News Online, July 7, 2009).

[While the sacrifice of soldiers is ignored, much of the media is taken up with the events surrounding the death of a pop star. This pattern may be instructive to Christians. As believers we know that the world will take little notice of the good the Lord will enable us to do.

Nevertheless, "For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which you have showed toward his name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister" (Hebrews 6:10).]

With the death of Michael Jackson, there should be a really huge story to ever try and get above it. The media is always out after what draws most attention - usually, that is not positive news.

I also think Michael Jackson's death is sad. He was a muslim and I have praying many times for his salvation and now I dont know is he in heaven or in hell.

Yes it's unfortunate I've prayed myself.

The problem with Congressman King and others is that the media do not report daily the amount of people who are killed during this war. Before Michael's death there was never any coverage on the happenings in Afgan...if a local New Yorker was injured yes they'd mention something. I watch news every day..and before his death the coverage was low..I've been asking people this question before where were the complaints before his death.

You have to go to international news, I get more info online than tv...

This problem existed before, but when it hits home it becomes personal and only then we have a voice.
Why wait for someone to die to demand their respect. Everyday the news or local papers should post our service men going overseas. When the war was fresh they did. Family members should not wait till a death for the country to respect the service men.

How many hungry kids die yesterday, how many kids are being shipped to foreign countries and even in American soil to be sex slaves.

It's only when someone close to home falls victim do we care about the problems of society. We should be humanitarians every day..not when trouble hits our doorstep.

When our child is the victim of rape , now we want strict laws...like we never notice the kids before on the news report.

My anthem through out this whole thing..why now...where was the complaints before.

As a society we need to care for others, because when we make a stand for someone..that exact change we made will help us in the future. But if we sit back and only have a voice when we are hurt, then it becomes about us...what about those before, who lost their husband, wife, brother, sister , son daughter etc. Did we grieve with them, did we get angry knowing the media didn't cover it. Did we try to make a difference?

Never wait, change starts with us.

I stopped Listening to Alex Jones because of the things he said, but he was the first to mention pain killers and he was killed, wow.

The Rick wiles of trunews called him some things as well.

I do agree, my eyes have opened now and I can see the con of the main media, while laws are past like wild fired in the US and UK to take out freedoms away, terrorism and Financial crisis and the now released on purpose swinr flu, all designed to set up the one world government.
Some call New World Order, and I refer to as the Global Elite, see my blog for more.

Anyway, the main media, Fox, CNN and NBC and Sky News and BBC News here, all have their agenda.

It seems that they are owned and controlled and run by these very people, well, that are either in the global elite, or controlled by.

So, am I saying MJ was killed to focus attention on that, maybe not, who knows.

But no offense, feel sorry for family and all, but when for days, least 2 to 3 in the UK even it's all MJ or Iran, or whatever, while bills are being passed they dare not tell you about, come on, something is not right.

But then that's another story, Obama and so on.

US and UK are heading for a huge fall, I pray China does not take over, more likely to be the E.U, full filling what many see as the Revived Roman Empire.

I'm not so sure, the last great superpower before Jesus returns might well still be the U.S.

One thing is for sure, sadly, the US and UK are not Christian nations anymore.
All shocking, but when you do your research, on the net, hence why they wanna stage some event, so they say to alter it, heard of internet 2?

All food for though eh.
