IT IS FINISHED!
When Jesus ….received the vinegar, he said, IT IS FINISHED: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost (John 19:30).
It was finished, but what, what was finished? Condemnation by the curse for sins and the offering of sacrifices according to the Mosaic Law was finished because Jesus Christ redeemed us from the curse for sins when we became a final sacrifice for sins, once for all, so that our sins are forgiven by the grace of God for our faith in Jesus Christ, and by being under the grace of God for our faith, we are not condemned by the curse for sins of the Law. By faith in Jesus Christ, we can be saved from our sins (unrighteousness) and born of the Spirit as a member of the family of God, and be saved from death by receiving Eternal Life to become an heir of all things. The Mosaic Law was finished as a way to live a righteous life in communion with God. However, Jesus Christ came into the world to do by His Spirit what the Mosaic Law could not do by keeping Laws and Commandments of the Mosaic Law and to save us from death by making us one Spirit with God the Father and the Son of God as a member of the family of God.
Being under the grace of God for our faith saves us from being condemned by the curse for sins of the Law, but that does not save us from our unrighteousness (sin), the corruption of sin in our life. We are forgiven of past sins and saved from a guilty conscience by the grace of God for our faith in Jesus Christ and confessing our sins, but that does not remove/deliver us from the sin (unrighteousness) in our life, which can destroy/ruin our life.
To become an heir of God in the Kingdom of God we overcome the world (the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the pride of life). We put off the sins of the flesh, or, spiritually “crucify” the affections and lusts of the flesh to live in the Spirit. As we continue to walk with the Spirit, our “old man” (body of sin) dies to our sinful habits. This saves us from our life being ruined by unrighteousness. This is how we are raised incorruptible and then changed to put on immortality. A degenerate sinner is regenerated through faith and repentance, restored to become as a little child again (as without sin) by putting off the sins the flesh to live a righteous lifestyle. Our regeneration is accomplished by the washing away of the sin (unrighteousness) in our life by the washing of the water of the word of God (Titus 3:5). When God sees us as a believer who has repented and put off the sins of the flesh to practice righteousness we are saved/justified/born of the Spirit by being quickened together with the Spirit of Christ. This is when the righteousness of Jesus Christ is imputed unto us by the Spirit of Jesus Christ being the life in and through us (Galatians 2:20, Col. 3:3).
(51) Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, (52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
(54) So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory (1 Corinthians 15:51-54).
We are raised incorruptible as we are cleansed of unrighteousness by overcoming the world to live in the Spirit.
(22) But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, (23) to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, (Hebrews 12:22-23).
In the city of God, New Jerusalem, are the spirits of righteous (justified/raised incorruptible) men made perfect (sanctified wholly by the Holy Spirit of God the Father).
We were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (5) For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, (6) knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin (Romans 6:4-6).
In whom also you are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ, (12) buried with Him in baptism, in whom also you were raised through the faith of the working of God, raising Him from the dead (Colossians 2:11-12).
In both Romans 6:4-6 and Colossians 2:11-12 above, believers spiritually died to the sin in their life as their heart was circumcised of the sins of the flesh to be justified (declared righteous) by being baptized with the Spirit of Christ (not water) into His death, wherein they are raised incorruptible.
If then you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, are you subject to its ordinances: (Colossians 2:20, Romans 6:7). Believers baptized with the Spirit of Christ after putting off the sins of the flesh, or, after crucifying the affections and lusts of the flesh were justified by becoming one Spirit with the Lord in His death and raised incorruptible, having the righteousness of Jesus Christ imputed unto them.
He is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that outwardly in flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart; in spirit and not in letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God (Romans 2:28-29).
Circumcision is of the heart by the Spirit (not the flesh as the Mosaic Law) to be made righteous and born of the Spirit.
It is one God who will justify circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. (Romans 3:30).
Those living a righteous life are justified BY faith (immediately); those who did not practice righteous living were cleansed of unrighteousness to be justified THROUGH faith to be born of the Spirit and raised incorruptible.
Jehovah your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your seed, to love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live (Deuteronomy 30:6). Because the righteous LIVE by faith (Romans 1:17), the heart of believers is circumcised by the Spirit of the sins of the flesh to become righteous and be born of God by becoming one Spirit with the Lord. This is when the righteousness of Christ is imputed unto the repentant believer.
And such were some of you. But you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, AND by the Spirit of our God (1 Cor. 6:11). Believers are forgiven (justified) of past sins by being baptized with water “in the name of Jesus Christ” but are not born of the Spirit by being justified by the Spirit of our God until they put off the sins of the flesh, or, overcome the world by repenting of sin unto practicing righteousness.
And if the righteous one is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear (1 Peter 4:18)?
A believer was not saved until they repented of their sin (unrighteousness) to practice righteousness.
….let no one deceive you. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as that One is righteous (1 John 3:7).
The Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God.
And the dead in Christ shall rise first (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
