He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "[He is] my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." Psalm 91:1-2
The writer of this psalm compares trusting God to living in a shelter that provides safety and refuge from the worst parts of life. Danger and challenges still come, but within this shelter there is relief and hope for the future. When everything else falls away and proves itself unreliable, God alone remains as the one true source of safety.
Perhaps you can begin to meditate on this psalm today by asking whether you're in a state of rest and peace regardless of your life circumstances. Are you aware of God's presence and comfort? Do you have the peace of God even if your life is in turmoil?
If you don't have this sense of trust and peace in God, this could be a sign that you need to step into God's shelter instead of your own. Any man-made structure or source of security will topple when the circumstances of life grow difficult.
Prayer: Lord, I surrender my own security and future into Your loving care. I trust You to guard me in the trials of life.
