Then Peter came to him and asked, "Lord, how often should I forgive someone [fn] who sins against me? Seven times?"

Forgiving others is for our own good
Not forgiving others usually is bad for us

We are to confess our sins to those against whom we have sinned. All sin is against God, so we confess all sin to Him.
However, we also sin against people. We steal, we lie, we abuse. It is to those we have offended that we must confess our faults, accepting responsibility and asking forgiveness.
We are not to confess our sins willy nilly to just anyone who is not personally involved...it is none of their business.
