Is purgatory a myth and where did it come from?

Member
Is purgatory false doctrine? A woman had a near death experience where she was in a place, void of demons and fire, for suicide people where she experienced being able to hear everyone's thoughts but could not communicate with them and everyone was separated from God with no knowledge, no recreation, just wandering aimlessly in their own thoughts and mind and she said it was maddening. Was she in purgatory? Her name is Angie Fenimore and she met Jesus. Her story is here. Angie Fenimore's Suicide Near-Death Experience

It's just another satanic Roman Catholic adoption of pagan theology, with ABSOLUTELY NO Biblical support whatsoever. It DENIGRATES the Sin Offering of Jesus, and DENIES that the Born Again Christian is cleansed and made whole before God.

There are many verses in scripture that are used as support for the belief in Purgutary. The most influential comes from the 'Maccabees''. This book is not included in Protestant bibles.

It is not the worst belief either. When you study the topic properly you can understand how and why an intelligent person who loves Jesus could believe this.

I personally don't agree with the belief. But will not hammer anyone who does. Worse constructs of scripture that demean God and His character exist. For example, Calvinism, annihilationism and a works based salvation. It is shockingly hilarious to hear someone in one of those three categories mock the Catholic church and their beliefs.

A belief in purgatory does zero damage to God's character or to what Jesus did on the cross. As such it is not a belief driven by the devil.

She was probably in a dream - state. Nobody goes to Hades, Purgatory or Heaven unless they are dead.....or like Paul, chosen to write 3/4 of the NT.

It does not. You are just showing you have not properly studied the topic.

Purgatory is seen as 'extra' time for those not completely sold out to wickedness. Extra time to make amends and prove their heart desires Jesus and true repentance. Jesus's sacrifice on the cross takes one from Purgatory to heaven, nothing else.

If you consider a verse like 1 Pet 4:18 ''the righteous are barely saved'', you will see that a place like Purgatory would be sensible. Or if you consider how on earth not all seem to get ''equal and fair'' opportunity to accept or reject Jesus.

2 Maccabees 12:43-46 43 And making a gathering, he sent twelve thousand drachms of silver to Jerusalem for sacrifice to be offered for the sins of the dead, thinking well and religiously concerning the resurrection, 44 (For if he had not hoped that they that were slain should rise again, it would have seemed superfluous and vain to pray for the dead,) 45 And because he considered that they who had fallen asleep with godliness, had great grace laid up for them. 46 It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.

They serve Jesus and raise Him to the highest honor. This is satanic to you?
OF COURSE!!!! the whole Purgatory concept is an attack on the true nature of Born Again Salvation. it's a satanic LIE adapted from pagan sources.

It's also satan's BEST JOKE on Catholics who die, and find out that because they were never Born Again by FAITH in the Sin Offering of Jesus that cleanses them from sin, that they're actually in HELL, and they won't EVER be getting out.

Being born again and having faith in Jesus is a '''gift'' from God to the whomsoever repents and is after His heart. Catholics ''are''' after His heart. To say otherwise is utter naivety. It is not ''our'' faith that saves us. Do you believe it is?

FAITH (Heb 11:1) is ALWAYS revelatory, but when it's gifted to us, it's OURS. Romans 10:17 tells you what the source of faith is, and Mark 11:22-24 gives an example of its application.

So what do you think this has to do with the Roman Catholic "Pugatorial Sanctification" heresy??

Your explanation being based on NOTHING bu Catholic imagination, is rejected without a second thought.

Bob, there are actually many scriptures that when put together paint a picture of Purgatory. It truly is a forgiveable belief. You should not be so harsh on Catholics.

Bob, you said ''satanic RC''. I am glad you agree with me on faith, in that it is given by God. You have just snookered yourself.

How can you call a group of people that assemble to worship and glorify Jesus....satanic. When the difference between the saved and unsaved is a God given faith and not a church affiliation.

I learnt about Jesus from the RCC. I do not agree with many of their beliefs, but I would never group ''satanic'' with RCC. What is your basis for such a harsh statement?

There is a lot of assumptions made about the RCC and its members.

On a discussion forum, you need to learn to not just make one-liner emotional statements without any support.

WHen a "Church" organization teaches their victims LIES about being Born again, and preaches Salvation by WORKS, and not by God Given FAITH in the SIN OFFERING of Jesus, then it's satanic.

Luther gave them the Biblical option to become TRUE TO THE GOSPEL, and they drove Him out.

In the '70s the Charismatic Outpouring was another chance when MANY Roman Catholics were Born Again - not because of the RCC, but IN SPITE OF IT.

And, of course it appears that Catholics gather to worship their Mary thing, and their Liturgy, not Jesus.

Only when twisted, and the TRUE Gospel Message is Ignored. Read the message to the Galatians where they're trying to be saved by Jesus PLUS their own works. Paul's not sure they're even "Christians" any more.

And I'm not "Harsh" on Catholics (that don't know any better because of their "Church" teaching). I'm HARSH in the Roman organization that leads them astray and teaches LIES.

You are terribly ignorant and rude. Using caps is rude. Calling another Christian affiliation satanic is idiocy. You can say a certain belief is satanic in nature, for example ''Purgatory'', but then you must state the reasons. We are all entitled to our opinion.

If you attended a Catholic church you would know that faith and belief in Jesus being Lord, the only begotten Son of God is Catholic 101.

All the other statements you make are also unfounded. You need to focus on one matter at a time. There is logic, reasoning and scripture for all Catholic beliefs. They have some errors sure, but are nowhere close to satanic. That has to be the silliest line I have ever read on this forum.

State a belief you disagree with and then state your reasons. Perhaps open a new thread.

You need to study history better, you are just coming across as ignorant.

The Roman catholic church is to thank for bringing an end to Christian persecution and evangelizing all of Europe and most of the world....with the message of Jesus being Lord, the only begotten Son of God.

After years of PRACTICING "Christian" persecution against any and all that didn't "Toe the Catholic line" back when they used to have Political power to destroy. Roman Catholic "evangelization" historically was often: "Do it our way or we'll kill you".

SO??? Believing that Jesus is who H is accomplishes NOTHING. The devils believe (Jas 2:19). It's a living FAITH in that which Jesus accomplished for you on the CROSS that gets the job done.

Many of them Like an unmarried Priesthood / Sisterhood and meatless Fridays are just meaningless, unbiblical, inconvenient, and outright silly.

Purgatory is adapted from PAGAN religions of the time (alluded to by Paul in 1 Cor 15:29 - note the word "They"). It's the MOST CRUEL of deceptions.

What BIBLICAL EVIDENCE is there that other people's MONEY has any effect on the "Spiritual condition" of the person in Purgatory effecting their release??? That should be your clue that it's just a money making Scheme (Tetzel cashed in BIG for Rome with that lie). But HEY!!! go to "Missionaries of the Holy Family" (or other Catholic places) and for $200 they'll do a series of 30 "Gregorian Masses", that'll spring your dear departed outta Purgatory in 30 days (no money back guarantee). Find THAT stupidity in the Bible!!!

The business of attempting to combine "Works" with (supposed) FAITH for salvation is deadly serious, and totally unbiblical. Luther got it right. Eph 2:8,9 It's FAITH plus nothing - and even the FAITH has to be gifted.
