Is it a sin or not?

Hi I've read through God's 10 commandements but there are a few i don't understand so if you could explain to me plz it would be helpful.


First I'd like the TRUE definition of adultery, I'm going to give examples & can you tell me if what I do will it be a SIN or NOT a SIN?

1/ If I'm single & have sex with a married woman? ( The way I see it is she'll be commiting a sin but I WON'T because I'm single)

2/ If I got a girlfriend & have sex with an other girl? ( If this is a sin then what if I have a threesome with my gf & the other girl that wouldn't be a sin would it?)

3/ If I'm single & have sex with a girl who has a boyfriend?

So in what situation will I be commiting adultery? PLease give true scriptures or passages from the Bible & explain it, I want to know what God's definition of Adultery is?

Personally the only time I'll be considered to be commiting the sin of Adultery is : If I've got a wife & I'm married to her & then I have sex with another woman/girl (whether she's single, married or has a boyfriend) that is Adultery do you agree?

I think If I have a GIRLFRIEND & I have sex with an other girl it's NOT A SIN because I'm not married & I read somewhere Marriage is an act of God, on the other hand If I have a WIFE & have sex with an other girl than that's a SIN because marriage is about Loyalty & Trust.
So I can have sex with as many girls as I want before marriage BUT once I'm married I can only have sex with my wife is that right?

Neutralview, your profile says your a born again believer in Jesus Christ. So how can you have a neutral view, as your name describes. You are either for Jesus or against Jesus.

Fornication is a sin in which you have sex outside of marriage. All the stuff you put about girlfriends and extra girls, etc. is fornication, which is a form of adultery.

I really find it hard to believe that you are not trying to pull our chain with this post.

....well actually everything you just mentioned is a sin according to the Bible. You are only allowed to have sex 1. when married, and 2. with your wife. That's it.

The correct Biblical definition of these terms with respect to sexual sins is:

1. Adultury: Illicit intimate sex between one man and one woman whereby the offender (the Adulterer) is currently Married.

2. Fornication: Illicit intimate sex between one man and one woman whereby the offender (the Fornicator) is currently NOT married.

So.... Adultery is ONLY applicable to "MARRIED" persons and
Fornication is ONLY applicable to "UNMARRIED" (SINGLE) people. But, again, they are both sins as the Bible states.

Here are a few verses to support these claims:

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 -- "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God."

1 Corinthians 6:13b, 18 -- "Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without (outside) the body; but he that commiteth fornication sinneth against his own body."

Galatians 5:19-21 -- "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness ... of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 -- "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: that every one of you should know how to possess his vessel (body) in sanctification and honor, not in lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which do not know God."

All of these verses clearly show us that God is 100% against pre-marital sex and that He commands us to not take part in pre-marital sex. God's Word has not changed. God wants us to have sexual relations with our husband or wife only.

So I hope this helps you. Can't get much clearer than that. And anyway, when you have the Lord you don't even want to be a part of any of these sins, that's how perfect He is!

Exodus 20:14, does clearly state: "You shall not commit adultery." The Hebrew word used is ( נָאַף ) or ( naaph ) No, 5003. It directly refers to breaking the wedlock by having sexual intercourse with someone other than your spouse.

So, it is an interesting question to ask, if you are not married, does this law apply to you!

Quoting from the Adam Clarke's Commentary: Adultery, as defined by our laws, is of two kinds; double, when between two married persons; single, when one of the parties is married, the other single. One principal part of the criminality of adultery consists in its injustice.
1. It robs a man of his right by taking from him the affection of his wife.
2. It does him a wrong by fathering on him and obliging him to maintain as his own a spurious offspring, a child which is not his.

The act itself, and every thing leading to the act, is prohibited by this commandment. Because Jesus said, in Matthew 5:27: "Even he who looks on a woman to lust after her, has already committed adultery with her in his heart." And not only adultery (the unlawful commerce between two married persons) is forbidden here, but also fornication and all kinds of mental and sensual uncleanness. All impure books, songs, paintings, etc., which tend to inflame and debauch the mind, are against this law.

That fornication was included under this command we may gather from Matthew 15:19: NASB "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders." Jesus expresses the sense of the different commandments by a word for each, and mentions them in the order in which they stand; but when he comes to the seventh he uses two words, μοιχειαι πορνειαι, to express its meaning, and then goes on to the eighth, etc. Thus evidently showing that fornication was understood to be comprehended under the command, "You shall not commit adultery." As to the word adultery, adulterium, it has probably been derived from the words ad alterius torum, to another's bed; for it is going to the bed of another man that constitutes the act and the crime.

It's amazing how far we have fallen in such a short time. TV, radio, the internet and virtually all social media desensitizes us the God's laws.

Fornication is sex where neither person is married - it's a sin.
Adultery is sex where one or both people are married to someone else - this is also sin.

The Bible says even if we only think about having adultery with someone else in our heart, we are just as guilty as if we had actually done it. (Matt 5:28)

Having sex with someone you aren't married to, is just as much a sin as having sex with someone who is married to someone else. This post causes me concerns are so many levels. Do you know what love is? The definition of love is putting the other person ahead of yourself. If you are selfish enough to "cheat" on this girl how can you even say you love her? How would you feel if she was doing the same thing? If it didn't bother you I would say there is no love in this relationship at all.
 
Fornication is illicit sex relations outside of Scriptural marriage. The Hebrew verb za·nah´ and its related forms convey the idea of harlotry, immoral intercourse, fornication, or prostitution. (Gen 38:24; Ex 34:16; Hosea 1:2; Lev 19:29) The Greek word translated “fornication” is por·nei´a. Regarding the meanings of por·nei´a, B. F. Westcott in his book Saint Paul’s Epistle to the Ephesians (1906, p. 76) says: “This is a general term for all unlawful intercourse, (I) adultery: Hos. ii. 2, 4 (LXX.); Matt. v. 32; xix. 9; (2) unlawful marriage, I Cor. v. I; (3) fornication, the common sense as here [Eph 5:3].”

Bauer’s Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament (revised by F. W. Gingrich and F. Danker, 1979, p. 693) defines por·nei´a as “prostitution, unchastity, fornication, of every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse.” Porneia is understood to involve the grossly immoral use of the genital organ(s) of at least one human; also there must have been two or more parties (including another consenting human or a beast), whether of the same sex or the opposite sex. (Jude 7)

Bestiality is also fornication, for Leviticus 20:15, 16 says that "where a man gives his seminal emission to a beast, he should be put to death without fail, and you should kill the beast. And where a woman approaches any beast to have a connection with it, you must kill the woman and the beast. They should be put to death without fail. Their own blood is upon them." Fornication is thus any unlawful sexual intercourse, whether married or unmarried and within it's confines is adultery, which involves those who are married. The apostle Paul wrote: "Let marriage be honorable among all, and the marriage bed be without defilement, for God will judge fornicators and adulterers."(Heb 13:4)

That fornication includes married, as well as unmarried persons, is seen in what Jesus said: "Moreover it was said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ However, I say to you that everyone divorcing his wife, except on account of fornication ("every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse" and grossly immoral use of the genitals), makes her a subject for adultery, and whoever marries a (wrongfully) divorced woman commits adultery."(Matt 5:31, 32)

Hence, when one of the mates has committed fornication, this has adulterated ("made impure", Encarta Dictionary) the marital arrangement. And, on the other hand, when an innocent mate is divorced by his or her mate and fornication is not involved (such as saying they are just incompatible), then the innocent mate cannot remarry or else this one would be committing adultery.

When God performed the first human marriage he said: “That is why a man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh.” (Gen 2:24) Here the standard set for man and woman was monogamy, and promiscuous sex relationship was ruled out, which Jesus later reestablished.(Matt 19:4-6, 9) Also, no divorce and remarriage to another was anticipated. In patriarchal society God’s faithful servants hated fornication, whether between single, engaged, or married persons, and it was considered a sin against God.(Gen 34:1, 2, 6, 7, 31; 38:24-26; 39:7-9)

Under the Mosaic Law, a man committing fornication with an unengaged girl was required to marry the girl and to pay her father the purchase price for brides (50 silver shekels (18.35 troy oz); value of $739.14 as of April 9, 2011, at $40.28 per troy oz.), and he could not divorce her all his days. Even if her father refused to give him the girl in marriage, the man had to pay the purchase price to the father. (Ex 22:16, 17; Deut 22:28, 29) However, if the girl was engaged, the man was to be stoned to death. If the girl screamed when she was attacked, she was not to be punished, but if the engaged girl failed to scream (thereby indicating consent), she was also put to death.(Deut 22:23-27)

Jesus Christ restored God’s original standard of monogamy (Matt 5:32; 19:9) and showed the wickedness of fornication by classing it with murder, thievery, wicked reasoning, false testimony, and blasphemy. He pointed out that these come from within a man, from his heart, and defile him. (Matt 15:19, 20; Mark 7:21-23) Later, the governing body of the Christian congregation, comprised of the apostles and older men in Jerusalem, wrote to Christians in about 49 C.E., warning them against fornication, and placing it alongside idolatry and the eating of blood.(Acts 15:20, 29; 21:25)
