Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise: "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth." Ephesians 6:1-3

Parents’ Day is a US holiday that’s celebrated on the fourth Sunday of July “to recognize and promote parenting as a crucial part of families and the wider community,” according to timeanddate.com. The website says it was signed into law in 1994 by President Bill Clinton.

If you had parents who raised you well by always placing your needs first, making huge sacrifices for you, and training you to become a God-honoring adult, then take some time today and let them know how appreciative you are. If your parents were less-than-ideal models, pick up the phone anyway, if they’re still alive, and thank them for what they did right.

Honoring your parents generally leads to a longer life. This is how Henry Donald Maurice Spence-Jones and Rev. Joseph S. Exell explain it in the Pulpit Commentary: “Where obedience to parents is found, there is usually found along with it temperance, self-control, industry, regular ways of life, and other habits that tend towards prosperity and longevity.”
