In 2 Corinthians 4:7, Paul writes, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” But unless we come to the place of giving up our stubborn will, our own ambitions and our way of doing things, the light of Christ will never shine out from us, the earthen vessels.

A.W. Tozer once said, “God cannot use a man greatly until He has broken him deeply.” I believe this is true. If Jesus had not submitted and listened to the Father concerning Lazarus, the glory and power of God would not have been displayed through his resurrection. If Gideon’s men decided their leader was foolish and therefore did not submit and follow his command, the battle never would have been won, nor the victory given to God.Jesus has set before us His submission as an example that we might do exactly as He has done.

First Corinthians 4:2 (TLB) says, “Now the most important thing about a servant is that he does just what his master tells him to.” Let us then press on to follow our Master—Jesus—and live this kind of life pleasing to Him, sustained by the submission, humility and love that we see in Him.

When I came to Christ in 1983 I had no idea what a challenge this would be. I had a highly exalted idea of who I was in God's world, a belief that had to be utterly smashed before I could begin to grow as a believer. I think we all go through stages of development, the working out (developing) of our salvation with God's guidance that Paul refers to in Php 2:12-13.

2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

I am reminded of a devotional someone shared with me not long ago.

A woman goes to a garage sale and sees a beautiful decorative vase. She is awestruck by it's beauty and exclaims "this is incredibly beautiful". The vase responds "I wasn't always this way.

I used to be a lump of clay with a bunch of filth and dirt mixed in. Then the master took me and and put me in a box, and I was kneaded, and slapped around, and had water poured on me many times, sometimes I thought I was going to drown. Finally this part was over and I asked the Master.. 'am I done yet?' He said 'Not yet'.

Then I was placed upon a wheel and spun around in circles, I got so dizzy, I didn't know which way was up. I was punched and pulled, and it was often painful. After this part was over I asked the Master.. 'am I done yet?' He said 'Not yet'.

Then the Master put me in a oven, it was very scary. It was so hot there, I couldn't breathe and just when I thought I was going to shatter into a million pieces, the Master took me out. Again, I asked the Master... 'am I done yet?' He said 'not yet'.

Then he put caustic chemicals on me, and started painting me. I had to sit still. This took a very long time as every line and flower was intricately drawn upon me. I had to learn patience, but I was learning to trust the Master. When this was finished.. I asked 'Am I done yet?'. He said... (you guessed it).

Then he put in another oven, and this one was even hotter than the first one. I was in there a long time, I felt like I was smothering, it was so hot there. I felt like the Master had forgotten about me. Finally the Master took me out of the fiery furnace and looked at me...

...and he said 'It is finished'".

Php 1:6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Thanks for the posts here... Now more or less my question lately been answered. Though I have already read the story Bro. B-A-C many times, I do appreciate it more this time especially on this part
