I lost my faith

Does a person have to believe in a Trinity to be saved?

  1. I lost my faith because I was tired of being condemned for being non-trinitarian. I burned all my books and bibles and took my website down and gave up. Now, I want to be restored but can never believe in a trinity. I'm just so disappointed that Christians would condemn one another. I feel like most Christians don't represent Christ. I was a minister for a short time but did the right thing and got out. Now, the Lord is calling me back. I have to go to a non-trinitarian church to fit in and the JW'S just don't cut it with me. Any suggestions?
  2. First welcome to Talk Jesus @BLACKSHEEP
Always a joy to welcome another Brother in Christ Jesus to this online Christian Forum of Believers. Believers in Christ Jesus as the Son of God.

Now, burning all your books and bibles, for not being in the norm? Being angry with others, and destroying the Word of God, is justification because of a disagreement? Doesn't seem quite right does it? I knew a man who would not come to Jesus because of the messengers that he believed were fake, and who very well may have been. I asked him, what was the message and did he not believe because the messenger is faulty or the message untrue? He eventually came to the Lord. Alleluia!

The point is though others may disagree with Jesus Christ being the Son of God, and so God, which is why the Jews of the day wanted to stone Him a time or two. For they understood the significance of what He was saying to them. It is through Jesus Christ that Salvation is found, which is what is important here. If that is the part of the Trinity that you disagree with. Then truly this maybe a problem in many ways. But you will find that out for yourself as you read through the many threads provided for consumption.

I will say, that this site, is Trinitarian as the Forum Statement of Faith will tell you when you read it:

    Statement of Faith

However, we should always communicate in and with the Love of Christ Jesus. Not every topic has to be driven by this subject (Trinitarian). In fact most of the topics have little to do with this. So, being respectful of each other, and though differing in certain areas. If we keep Christ Jesus central to our lives and actions. Then know that you will do well here.

We have others here who are not Trinitarians, but keep it for the most part to themselves. Difficult as it may be at times. Which is my suggestion to you and your participation.

We are part of the Body of Christ. Each part is welcome here and would count it a blessing for your communications. May you find what you searching for and what God has placed on your heart to do.

Once again, be welcome to Talk Jesus Brother.
With the Love of Christ Jesus.

  3. I have no problem believing that Jesus is the Son of God or that he is God. I just disagree with the idea of co-equaity. Jesus said the Father is greater and I believe him.

I had the most difficult time dealing with this. When Christians condemn one another it just destroyed my faith and does nothing for the cause of Christ. It only portrays Christianity as being against itself. There are damnable and undammable heresies, but very few damnable ones. Even Paul while in prison, knowing that Christ was being preached insincerely, improperly, with contention and not in complete truth. He was able to rejoice in that Christ was being preached anyway.

"Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,"

I almost lost my faith entirely. I just could not understand how people who called themselves Christians could condemn others over a doctrine that quite frankly is debunked by the words of Jesus himself. I found no love in Christians. I felt that the ones condemning me didn't represent Christ. I gave up on the followers of Jesus Christ. Since they represented Christ, I wanted nothing to do with him. So I burned a slew of good hardcover resource books including 5 bibles that would cost close to $2,000 to replace today.

If I told people the kind of Church I'm attending now I would be condemned again. So I'll keep that private.
  4. Greetings,

    Post in Peace.

and may I add that the topic you are discussing can be taken up in a new or already going thread? This is , after all, the introduction forum.

    Bless you ....><>
  5. So then let me introduce myself.

My name is Jim. A retired diesel mechanic now filling in as the overseer of a 200 year old farm in New Hampshire.

I became a Christian in 1973 and as you can see I almost threw it all away. I'm slowly being restored but find it difficult at times. I'm interested in end-time prophecy and have different views than most on the subject. Maybe we can have some great discussions on the subject.

    God bless...
  6. Greetings again Jim,

sounds like a nice position to have on the farm. Do you live there?
Are you the only black sheep on the farm?

Don't be discouraged. And for that matter remember your own past discouragement and what you see that might have brought it on and from there treat others accordingly.

One thing we can all forget is that the wisdom that comes from above, ie from God, is gentle.
I know that I have not always been the nicest or sweetest delight to communicate with and with the Lord's help, I remember that in my manner of walk and talk if others are not so sweet to me.
You may be a better man than me but there is a fair chance that you haven't always been the most encouraging chap in town either. (that's for you to judge, of course, not me)

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
    James 3:17

    Bless you ....><>
  7. I live here and pay no rent or utilities etc. I am the only black sheep. We have some black chickens. 70 total and 3 roosters, one mean one. 19 beef cows, 6 calves and more on the way, and one 700lb pet pig. It's an interesting place.

I certainly haven't been the most encouraging chap in town, but I think that's complicated by some of the discouraging people I'm around. I try to be a better person, but struggle with one guy in particular at the farm who I consider is evil. He destroys my inner peace. So chances are after this summer I'll be long gone. I don't want to deal with someone who destroys my inner peace and tranquility in my retirement years. I've already had enough unnecessary struggles in my life and it would be wise for me to get away from bad people.
  8. Greetings again Jim,

firstly, you are interrupting my reply to you on another thread but being an ex-farmer type of chap, I can handle it!

Seriously, though, Jim, Is that other person your god?
Remind yourself of that more often. He is NOT, so render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is Gods.
You belong to God, through the shed blood of His Son. Therefore render your life to Him and know that He is the reason for your peace, not some other turkey on the farm.

    I'll go again,
Jim, if we let other people or circumstances become our god's we will have no peace, or better put we will not have God's peace in Jesus Christ the Lord. Who rules your life? The person you say is evil or the Lord Who is the LORD?
Am I upset? Why? Am i bowing to or submitting my life to any that I now say are stealing or destroying my peace?
The Jews knew Who the LORD was and knew that regardless of anything, the LORD was still the LORD and so they could rejoice in Him being the LORD, not any other person or situation.
It was ingrained and we need to be transformed as well in our minds so that we also see that truth.
If everything is falling apart and enemies are surrounding us, we will rejoice in the God of our Salvation because we know He is still the LORD and that He has given His Word to the world. Will we believe it or be as others and let circumstances rule our peace or other people rule our peace?
Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. ONLY He can give you the peace you are talking about, Jim.
I think you know that but will remind you nonetheless. And you remind yourself often, too!

Another point you must remember Jim, is a) the race is not over yet... persevere in faith, (meaning also the above peace part) and b) you have before you a much needed opportunity to be refined that little bit more, and probably because you really love the Lord and want to be all that a man who loves Him can be. Therefore the tribulations and trials are God-send's to you, even on those days you would rather it was easier.

I am a slowwwww learner and I still need reminding of His love and patience in me as i still buck against the pricks at times and resist the opportunities rather than sincerely praising the Lord in and through the situation. I have had years of daily abuse in my face (not now, but before now] and hated intensely most of it but all through it our Lord kept reminding me to praise Him and to thank Him and to use the stuff in my face to be the person I want to be ... a light and an example, salt and grace, steadfast in faith and kindness, etc ,etc.
I failed in my opinion, miserably, but somewhere the Lord changed things and had me praising and blessing through it (most of the time) and I was able to enjoy His Peace as a child of His should be able to. This was due to His faithfulness and His Life, not mine. I had to get serious about my failings and accept that i was the one who was acting evil because I KNEW the Lord and His love and I called myself a Christian and I still behaved totally carnally in the face of opposition.
Humble yourself before the LORD, was one of my lessons... that means, accept your lot and rejoice because He is God and let His will be done on earth (which includes me!) as it is in Heaven. And He will lift you out of the miry hole and set you up... remember Joseph and how he took it all when his own brothers were so cruel to him, and look at the end result.

The race is not over yet, so wait upon the Lord and He will lift you up.

And don't forget to feed the chooks!

    Bless you ....><>

ps.. remember, Jim, who are you going to worship today? Who is going to give you peace? If you find that others are being blamed for the way you feel (blamed by yourself) then that is because you are yielding yourself to them to the degree that whatever they are doing or saying is being lord over you and your peace.

ppss... also, Jim, do a check and ask the Lord to double check that you yourself are walking uprightly and are not opening the door for mischief and evil by and through any sin.

  9. I came close to losing my faith. I refuse to let someone take away my inner peace. I don't have to be here at the farm. I'm retired and I go far above what's expected of me. The person I'm referring to is my daughters boyfriend. The owner of the farm who lives in CT. would just assume see this man go. He has several assault charges on him and we almost got into it twice. He loves getting under peoples skin and threatened me again the other day. My daughter was assaulted by him, she lost her daughter because of it, and then she lied on the police report because I believe he threatened her.

I know how much I will tolerate and how long I will tolerate it. The wise thing for me to do is get away from this type of person. He's the most arrogant person I've ever met and gets thrown off of jobs at his place of employment because of his arrogance. I've dealt with bad people before being a shop foreman in the mechanic business, and he's far worse than any man I've ever met. I know that it's not worth dealing with this anymore. I don't need it and I don't want it. He destroys my spirit. I'm uplifted for the week when I go to church, and he takes it away in a heartbeat.

This man is no god of mine, he's of the devil and we are told to resist the devil.

I don't know what you mean by this...
  10. Greetings again,

Sorry my odd sense of humour in a friendly sort of way towards you, Jim.
I was referring to the fact that i was writing a long reply to another post you had made and being a little light hearted about it. I noticed your reply here and came and decided to write to you as I did.

Please forgive me if I offended you in any way.

I understand how you feel regarding your present situation but want to encourage you to take your stand beside the Lord and wait on Him.
Sometimes it can be very difficult but sometimes we also can make it more difficult by brooding on it or letting it lord it over us.

I'll be praying that you are able to not only be strong but also that the Lord would undertake for you in this situation. It appears to be out of your control, which is a good thing sometimes if we can accept that and yield it all to the Lord, continuing by faith in His Word.

    Bless you ....><>
