im a guy who likes to game, i dont play games that have anything to do with magic witchcraft or any sort of unchristian behavior
but lately every time i play my favorite games (cod warzone, Battlefield, world of tanks) something bad happens and makes me feel guilty about playing them. It makes me feel like Gods letting bad things happen because of what im playing( i know it sounds weird but bear with me) im a really paranoid person so when bad things start happening, i automatically attribute it to the most likely thing as i dont really do anything that i feel guilty about or any "major" sins. Ive been playing video games since i was like 10 and nothing like this has ever happened before.

Now im really depressed cause i want to play these games and i used to enjoy them alot, but because of this gulty feeling, i promised God i wouldn't play most of the games that i used to enjoy, but now im depressed cause all my friends want me to play with them but i cant cause i feel like God is going to hurt me or let something terrrible happen to me in some way if i go back on my promise

let me know what you think im very open to suggestions

I once had a conversation with a friend of my children. Back then, before gaming, people used to play role playing games and we were having a discussion on the spiritual connotations of role playing. The games they used to play, more often than not, were games of power often including light witchcraft. It occurred to me at the time, and I voiced it to him. 'Why play an imaginary game, when there is a real spiritual war going on in the spirit realm. A war between Christians and the forces of evil that Christians battle against daily? It's unfortunate that non-Christians, who daily, are being beaten up through their broken marriages, inter neighbourhood disputes, addictions etc.. are not being made aware of the fact that they can, if they would only give their lives to Jesus, put on their armour take up their Sword and fight back. Personally I find the prospect of fighting a real enemy far more exiting than pretending.

Greetings @Joshg21

You say, you don't play games that have anything to do with magic witchcraft or any sort of unchristian behaviour.

Then you confirm you are playing war games which include killing. Does that sound right to you?

Jesus said to his disciples, 'follow me', what did his disciples do, they left what they were doing and followed Jesus, they listened to him, they learnt from him, they called him teacher and Lord because that is what he was to them. If you are born again you are his disciple, Jesus says follow me, learn from me, you no longer belong to sin, the world and the devil, when you are born again you follow Jesus, you want to be as much as is humanly possible like him.

I used to play video games lots of years ago, the graphics is more real now than then but the situation is the same, especially with killing games, or games where you gain power, these thing are against what God teaches. Have you ever noticed there are no games that say, if you hit my right cheek I will offer you my left one also.

These games are very additive also, it is often hard to put them down or you say to yourself just one more game, just one more game. Whether we accept this or not they are actually radicalising the mind of the user.

If it was me Joshg21, I would stop and say, how much time am I actually spending learning from Jesus, how much time to I spend reading my Bible, how much time do I spend praying, how much time do I spend on these games.

War games and the like include killing, What is the 6th Commandment? Exodus 20:13

Playing war games the aim is to kill and be more powerful, being more powerful is not giving God the position in your life He requests. 1st Commandment You shall have no other gods before Me Exodus 20:2-17

Playing the games are addictive, they are hard to say no to, I found it hard to let go also, but what I feel adds to this is your mates play them, so they are encouraging you to play also.

Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

Thank you for sharing your heart felt concerns, it cannot have been easy for you to share with us, we feel the genuine concerns of your heart.
we will pray for the Lord to give you strength and guidance, be strong, Trust in the Lord.

Bless you

Greetings @Joshg21

I can see why your heart is troubled my friend, you want to be right with God. PTL.

But you like playing the games, which are addictive. There is nothing wrong with playing games, so long as they do not take over our time and that the type of game doesn't go against the principles and commands of scripture.

Try this little test, ask yourself, 'what would Jesus do?'
Now I know there were no video games in His time on earth, but there were as many other distractions 2000 years ago as there is today. What do you think?

We are praying for you Joshg21, may the Lord reveal to you His will in your life, may He reveal to you what is right for you and your heart where the Holy Spirit abides in every born again believer. If you would like a specific prayer to help you just ask, Jesus loves you we do too.

Life has many issues we have to wrestle with, but we shouldn't wrestle with those things that are avoidable, God will give you strength and guidance by His Holy Spirit.

As I mentioned previously, I used to play lots of video games when I was younger, before I was saved, so I knew no better, they included killing games although graphics were not as they are today the principle is the same. How did I stop, I am only sharing what I did, you have to pray for guidance, protection and for God to reveal to you His will in your life. The first thing I found was I played the games because I had time on my hands, it gave me something to do, but that was how it started. So I changed by routines to do something different, it wasn't easy as the addictive games were always a pull. I also changed the types of games I played, it wasn't the same so it was hard at first but it worked for me.

You are luckier than me Joshg21, you know the Lord, you have a faith I didn't then. Ask yourself my friend, What would Jesus say? Ask in prayer, lay your heart felt concerns with the Lord, and leave them with Him.

May I ask Joshg21, are your friends saved? Do you play games on your own or group games with your friends?

Philippians 4:6-8 (KJV)
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Trust the Lord always.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, He will guide your paths.

Bless you

God wants you to develop a prudent, peaceful mind. He wants you to prepare you (in spirit) to be a person who is rich in the gifts of the spirit. I also played video games which didn't caused me to deflect so much. But a little bit every video game causes deflection in the soul (heart and mind) of a person. I discovered that sin to causes such deflection. So it is understandable the fact that God does not prefer people spending their time to do such things. (The Spirit signaled also when I I started to play "Mirrors Edge" which can be played through without shooting, but the quam is she gets shot.)

Hello Josh
You know one thing? God loves you so much and his love for you is never ending. Your name itself refers to Joshua in bible. He is a very bold, very spiritual, and God's spirit-filled man. In bible, Joshua sometimes needed God's help for his unbreakable wall. you know that it's Jericho Wall. If he wants blessing, he needs to break that unbreakable wall. He was worried and don't know what to do. So God said you just praise me nothing you do, just praise me whatever I did in your praise me. He gave you life, not your friends. He gave you health, not your friends. He gave you wisdom, not your friends. He gave you a heart that love, not your friends. He gave you food and water, not your friends. He gave you eyes to see the wonders of God, not your friends. He gave you to listen what God speaks, not your friends. He gave you mouth to speak God's amazing things, not your friends. He gave you hands to clap, eat, write, catch, raise hands to worship him, not your friends. He gave you legs see.. you can even run like a leopard, not your friends. He gave you home to protect you from all thunders, hot sun, heavy rain, snow..or whatever harms you, not your friends. There are so many. Think about them, when you think about them, the happiness in playing video games is nothing compared with God's happiness for you. God always loves you Josh. When Joshua praised, that unbreakable wall suddenly shattered like just a piece of wood or some paper. Even when Joshua prayed to God when he needed God's help, God stopped Sun and moon for nearly one day. See, you are having the name Josh. See, why did God put this name to you, because God wants to know how much He loves you and cares about you. I always pray for you Josh. God is with you.

I listened to your words. The thought that came to me. You spend more time with the game than you do thinking about God .

God is certainly a God who loves us. But He is also jealous of how we put things infront of Him . He wants a relationship with You .

I hope you take time to set the game down , and spend more time with God
