Hello, I am Clay Pillar, age 15 and for the past few weeks I've been living my life in fear. This is due to one simple verse: Hebrews 6 4-6. "
For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame." I fear this for about a month ago I was under attack by an atheist and( I am ashamed of this) I believe I fell away. By this I mean I quit practicing the bible, quit praying, I truly questioned God, but most importantly openly said I didn't believe, even though I think down in my heart at the time I dude believe. Please tell me the truth, whether I'm going to hell, just be very straight. Thank you.

How much of the "good word of God" have you tasted? How much of the "powers of the world to come" have you tasted? No doubt you have slipped, but your error is judged in accord with what you really have from God and what are doing with it or what you have done with it. Don't condemn yourself. The fact that you are here speaking up says that you know you did wrong and want to be assured that it is not the end for you in the good things of God. Someone who is really reprobate (beyond help, completely and finally lost) will approach the matter very differently than you have here. God is a God of very great mercy. Fall on your knees and ask for it.

Please tell me the truth

I encourage you to search the word of God. I shared some of these verses recently with another neighbor in need: I pray you find them helpful as well! Remember that God's mercy endureth forever.

(41 verses in the Holy Bible tell us the LORD's mercy endureth forever, here are a few)

1 Chronicles 16:34 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
Psalms 106:1 Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Psalms 107:1 O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

It is also important to remember that even when we fall, we can turn to God, and repent of our sins:

Proverbs 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

Hosea 14:9 Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.

As God's mercy begins anew each day, our inward man is also renewed. (I find myself asking for forgiveness each day).

2 Corinthians 4:15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

Lamentations 3:22 ¶ It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

If you feel that it is something you want, I also encourage you to pray for wisdom: If you ask in good faith, God will answer.

Proverbs 3:13 ¶ Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. 14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. 16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. 17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. 19 The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. 20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
21 ¶ My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: 22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. 23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. 24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. 25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. 26 For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

It is my also my opinion that the only thing we should fear is he who holds the keys to hell and death; the one with the power to destroy the soul in hell. (The "fear of the LORD" is a fascinating study in the bible).

Proverbs 28:14 Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Luke 12:5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Psalms 34:11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

Psalms 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Proverbs 1:7 ¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 2:5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

The "atheist" you spoke with has hardened his/her heart. There are many ways to explain to atheists that they are probably not even atheists. I think I read something good posted on this website about speaking with atheists, by Chad I think. Kent Hovind is also a big-time atheist debate "specialist" you may want to look up. I do not like participating in debates/arguments, but I do think we can learn from them, and try to understand multiple view points while holding fast to our own beliefs. I have been where you are. I had a similar experience when I was 18 years old. I used to think that God wouldn't forgive some of my sins. On this particular occasion, I pointed my finger up to God, who at the time I spoke aloud to as if He were in the room, and said "I don't believe in you!" Well, to whom did I speak if I supposedly didn't believe in Him? I was foolish. I repented of that sin, and have since some 10+ years later found peace and wisdom in the word of God. I do not understand how God can forgive someone like me, but by His grace, so am I forgiven. So are we all.

Luke 5:32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

God bless!

If you have by faith believed in Jesus Christ and what He did for you on the cross, namely taking your punishment for sin on your behalf, and have repented of your sin, then you have become a child of the living God, and NOTHING and NO ONE can take you out of His grip. You may suffer some doubt in your life, and struggles in certain areas of your life with sin, but you are on the team, and you need to continue to walk by faith of the truth of your salvation and righteous standing with God. Confessing your sin (agreeing with God about sinning) is what he requires for you to do---not for salvation, or to maintain salvation---but for your good benefit, so that things will go well for you.

Hebrews 6:4-6
For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened—those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come— 6 and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame.

You are misinterpreting that verse! It is speaking of people in such rebellion that they will NEVER repent. They have already experienced repentance at one time, and there is no other repentance other than that. Please note also that to be "once enlightened" and to have "shared in the Holy Spirit" does not necessarily mean saved.

.

I agree with Ophel on the interpretation of that verse.

God does not refuse and reject a humble heart, faithful in Him. He loves you! Keep reading the Bible, confess your sins and believe that He has forgiven you already on the Cross.

Read Revelation 2-3. Jesus wrote 7 letters to 7 churches. Only 2 of them did he not have anything against. Five of them had fallen in one way or another away from their pure devotion to Jesus Christ. For only one did he have nothing positive to say, and yet in all cases, where they had fallen, he called them to repentance, and in all 7 cases, he encouraged them that there would be promises of heavenly rewards for spiritual perseverance, and for overcoming (conquering their foe; defeating the enemy) and for enduring to the end.

We serve a gracious, loving, compassionate and forgiving God. He is there waiting for his wayward children to return to him, and to allow him to direct their paths. If you desire to have your heart right with God, then it is obvious you are not among those who have fallen beyond recovery. Repent of your sins, and choose this day to allow Jesus Christ to have mastery over your life. I don't believe anyone lives in sinless perfection, but as followers of Christ we should walk in the Spirit and no longer according to the flesh. God has provided everything any of us needs to live godly and holy lives while we still walk the face of this earth, so trust him with your life, yield to his will and purposes for your life, and walk in fellowship with him the rest of your days.

Remember that Satan is the Father of lies, and he wants nothing more than for you to believe there is no longer hope for you. Believe Jesus! Believe that there is hope, and surrender your all to him today.

I know of what I speak from personal experience. I, too, at one time, deserted what I knew to be true, and I followed the desires of my flesh rather than submit to God's will and purposes for my life, but praise God, who is rich in mercy, he brought me back, he gave me a firm place to stand, and he let me know he wasn't finished with me yet. He still had a plan and a purpose for my life. And, now he is using me to share the truths of his word with others so that they, too, can have that same hope of a life restored and healed by the power of Jesus Christ and his blood shed on the cross for our sins. So, hang in there, and don't ever give up in defeat!! Keep trusting Jesus with your life!!

You, like many, take these verse strictly out of context, apply them to yourselves and condemn yourself, or allow what you think is said condemn you!
Take this into consideration:
  1. Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
  2. Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
  3. John 3:39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day
  4. John 6: 37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.
  5. John 10:29 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
  • So, let's look at this. The above verses are about true "Born Again" Christians.
  • A "Born Again: Christian is designated that by having the spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, living in you.
  • Once there, and because of the 5 above verses, what makes you think, a true Christian can "fall away" from a God like that?
Now, are you going to Hell or not. I can't tell you that but I can say this: A true believer and "Born Again" Christian will not go to Hell, they can not "fall away". On the , other hand", a nonbeliever, a person who is not a true or "Born Again" Christian will go to Hell if they die in that condition.
The problem for you is: are you saved or not, or you "Born Again" or not? That is up to you and God, no one else but he and you can answer that question.
Romans 10:13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Finally Clay, the ultimate choice is yours. Look at the two above verses in Romans. If you have done something similar to this you are saved and "Born Again". If you haven't you need to do it now.
Please understand this, essentially no one can "fall away". As we have discussed here certainly not a believer, true Christian can. And when you know the truth not even a nonbeliever can fall away, because you can not fall away from a place you have never been!
Rest in assurance, as a true Christian God will never leave you and Jesus will never lose you!

There is no hell. The word hell comes from a translation of a description of a burning garbage heap. The only true sin that God has is that when the holy spirit enters your soul to speak through you that you refuse.

You have a whole life to live! And every day will be a challenge. Don't live your life in fear. Learn something new everyday. And try to find something to laugh about. At least once a day. The rest of it will come to you as you grow older. If you always be true to yourself, you won't go wrong. God created us in His own image, so if you are an image of God then in a way, you are God. Don't read too much into it. Keep it simple for now and you will find the answers will come to you.

Yes, how would you like to live in the middle of a "burning garbage heap" for ALL eternity?

I believe I fell away. By this I mean I quit practicing the bible, quit praying, I truly questioned God, but most importantly openly said I didn't believe,
There is a big difference between stumbling, tripping up, straying off course, wandering from the flock, etc. etc.
and, becoming a reprobate (look it up).
Those scriptures are for truly born again Christians (in accordance with the original Pentecost Church) who deliberately backslide and continue
to re-live their previous sinful lives; and therefore openly make void and annul their salvation in the Holy Spirit.
Christians go through trials and tribulations constantly, and often get tricked into temporary loss of faith and testimony.
It would take a perfect person never to be deceived by the enemy.
Repentance and contrition are our great allies. Pray for forgiveness and pray for the Lord's help to bring you back into the fold.
Jesus is after all the Good Shepherd who will leave the 99 sheep that are safe in the flock, and go after the lost sheep to
rescue and bring back. Trust in His love and mercy. he remembers that we are clay.
