How do Christians expect people to believe every word the bible says when they don't themselves. For instance the Bible states that the nails went through Jesus's hands. Yet many Christians claim they went through his wrists?

I believe every word the Bible says and I am a Christian. However, I believe the Bible is written in parable language (Psalm 78:1-2, Mark 4) and, because of this, much of what sounds improbable in scripture to some persons is quite true, but on an interpreted level describing spiritual things.

How will men make money from the good news without creating doubt and division?
Jesus told us not to judge by appearances.
We are told that "even as he is so are we in this world" and if we judge that by appearances we cannot believe it or see it.

Interesting points. I agree with both of you. However I also belie e that much of the Bible is saying exactly what it means. We know that when we read parts of revelation, it is symbols not actual. The same with daniel. Take for instance the giant scorpion. We are all quite positive it is actually talking about helacopters or other man made war machines. But then we have the parable that Jesus states about the woman tithing all that she had. Yet the parable was not talking about tithing at all.

I think when the bible states the nails were through the hands. It means they were through the hands literally. It is not hard to understand when we pray to Christ for his revelation and truth. Rather than thinking we learn it all from man. Demonary schools are not teaching the truth.

I don't see what difference it makes, He was still crucified, dead and buried and resurrected! That is the basis for our belief!

Just off the top of my head, and if I remember correctly, the word that is translated as "hand" can refer to pretty much the whole upper forearm area. I see no contradiction in placing the nails that pierced Christ as being through his wrists.

I think there are bigger fish to fry out there.

For some reason people believe that all Gospel accounts must be "exactly" the same or it is proof of being faked. Yet in truth the opposite is true. If they were "exactly" alike then in all likely hood they were contrived.

You can have ten people watch an accident and then afterwards ask them what they saw and you will probably find ten different stories. Each focuses on something different that stood out to them within the context of the same experience. Same with the Gospels. Each shares a commonality of the same experience, yet a difference that reflects the different characteristic/perspective of those chosen to write their account of the Good News. I believe that this was at least one reason they were chosen to do this most glorified of writing.

As far as the difference between hand/wrist. I agree with Travis.

In Greek the word "χείρ", usually translated as "hand", referred to arm and hand together.

One thing you need to remember is the bible was written by different men of different cultures and worded things differently then others. However if you study His written word you will find that there is no mistakes or contradictions in His written word.

In this case, would a two inch difference change my belief?
If not, I would let it go.
If so, then maybe I ought to look for more similarities (what I can relate to) in the bible, than the differences.
