How to fight temptation?

To sins is to go against God and our fellow human beings. To fight temptation therefore, we must trust God because when we trust Him we will feel secure; and when we feel secure we will not seek sinful ways to solve our problems. To trust God we must believe in His infinite love which propelled Him to sacrifice His own life in order to free us from sin. To believe in His love is to desire that love in our heart. When we have that love in our heart we will love our fellow human beings. This would prevent us from offending them. Furthermore, when we love God we will avoid sin because we will not want to offend God by sinning.

To love God we must meditate on His love which He expressed by dying on the cross (in order to compensate for the sins we committed against Him); and ask Him to make His love the life of our heart. Furthermore, we must accept His will unconditionally in all matters of our life.

We must always be on guard against temptations that look good on the outside but are intrinsically evil. The simplest way to decipher if an act is against God is to find out if it is against God's laws and His natural order. If it is, it is never right, irrespective of how attractive it may look. If the temptation is very strong and hard to resist, we must pray for a pure and obedient heart.

These are some good points and definitely something to strive for daily and something as a practicing Christian we will want to strive for.
But, something we must always understand, we are imperfect and live in an imperfect world. and with out Jesus Christ abiding inside us, we would be hopelessly lost in our sin.

I am not talking about the "Dirty Dozen" or the the "Nasty Five" that so often comes to mind when referring to sin. Anything that is outside of God's perfectness and will for us is a sin. We sin many times when we don't even know it.

Paul reminds us of many aspects of God's Agape Love in 1 COR 13, and if a Christian is honest with themselves, we should know that we are not capable of performing this, perfect love, 24/7. We should always strive for God's love, but be remind that Jesus paid the price when we don't and not to live in bondage when we can't. " Therefore the is no condemnation for those in Jesus Christ"

And, until we die and our perfection comes, Paul says that these three things should remain: Faith, hope and Love.
Faith
This is where it all starts for a Christian. Salvation and the Christian life begins and is nourished through our belief in Grace by abiding Jesus Christ and his word.
Hope
Living in the truth that sets you free, that, the promise of a perfect eternity and prospect of looking at God face to face and knowing him as well as he knows us.
Love
And the greatest of these is love. The greatest commandment of all, replaces the 10 Commandments and everything else, "To love your neighbor as you love yourself" is the key to this:

Romans 8:28
8 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.
