Does God call you by your name, when He speaks to you? Or does He call you, "My child" or how does He call you, when He wants to speak to you.

I see you are struggling with my question or you are not understanding my question. So let me explain it a bit more in what I mean.

When one goes to prayer and speaks to God, after saying what you what to say to Him, or asking Him for direction or guidance etc. When God replies to you, does He address you by your name, or does He call you something different.

In 24 years, God has never spoken to me orally. His communication with me is always through my thought channels. Sometimes His messages come in the form of a thought that is delivered with force. Case in point: Yesterday, as I sat in a memorial service for people who died at a local hospice facility this year, Bam! The thought hit me - "Pray for Ronnie's salvation!" (Ronnie is my atheist/agnostic nephew). For a few seconds, I was shocked. Then I realized that God had spoken. I've prayed sporadically for Ronnie's salvation for years. Now that prayer has a new urgency.

Most of the time, though, His messages come in the form of nagging thoughts; no "Bam!", no shock, just a pesky thought that won't go away until I meditate on it for a bit. In these situations, if others are involved, I usually wind up saying something like, "This might be from God or it might just be from my brain, but I think God is saying......"

He's never called out my name because we both know who He's talking to.

Thanks SLE, this helped me a lot. I have many nagging thoughts that won't go away, but as you say we need to test them, if they are from God or not.

I have not heard God speak audibly (out loud) to me either, but like you, only in my thoughts and we just know that they are from Him. I do believe He can speak out loud to us, as many have had this.

He doesn't call me by my name either, but my husband said He calls him by his name, this is what got me thinking and wondering on this subject.

He calls me "His Child", which I am happy about. Sometimes when I get afraid of something, He says to me "God is with thee", just by hearing those words, helps me continue in not being afraid.

I have had God call me by my name in an audible voice when I was NOT praying & He wanted to get my attention to pray about someone perticular.

May God bless you.

For me, it's more physical than verbal. If He's trying to get my attention I get chills and they won't go away until I listen. And I've never had Him call me by name but like it was mentioned above, a very forceful overwhelming thought will come into mind or I'll open my Bible up to a passage of Scripture that I needed to read.

You get the feeling in your conscience.Every christian bears with him or her...the power of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit duels in us.So when you refer to the latter, you might be referring to the direction given to you by the Spirit.

I can only recall a time when i hadn't remembered to pray. The time was funny and it seemed like we were being ''invaded'' or so...I shall say.So what happened is, I had this dream and in it someone screamed to my ears and immediately, I arose from the bed;now that was about 1 am or so and i prayed. When I wa done, I felt secure...

Except for this and maybe the former, I dont think God has ever uttered words to me...

A thought provoking question. And one which requires an answer.

Looking back.......I say that often seeing the the need....is the call.

Except I be moved with compassion, how dwelleth the Spirit in me?
In word or in deed, burning love is my need, I know I can find it in thee.

What can you see?

I recall Jesus looked upon the multitude and saw folks 'as sheep without a shepherd'

There is such a crying for help. We ought to reach out to some.......

Dont struggle....waiting for a call. 'The fields are white unto harvest'

Lord Jesus help all to reap a harvest for you in this our day and generation.

In Jesus
