How can you disqualify yourself?

Then the LORD said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak." Exodus 4:11-12 ESV

Moses had plenty of persuasive and sensible reasons why he should be disqualified from the work God set before him. Having spent a large portion of his life isolated as a shepherd, he wasn’t qualified to speak to the ruler of Egypt. He feared that he would struggle to speak clearly. His only problem was that God’s arguments and God’s power were far superior and significantly more persuasive. The Lord promised to show him what to speak and to guide him as he confronted Pharaoh.

In what ways have you tried to disqualify yourself from serving others? Do you have excuses ready-made for God when the call to help others comes your way?

There’s no doubt that you may feel unqualified—or maybe extremely busy. Yet if God has truly called you to serve, then you have an opportunity to obey His clear call. God wants you to depend on the Holy Spirit working in your life, not on the talent or ability you bring.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, I trust that You can prepare me for every good work You’ve called me to do.
