Hosea 10: 1 Different Doctrines On Old Covenant Israel In Different Translations
"Israel is an empty vine, yet hath it brought forth fruit unto itself, and according to the multitude of the fruit thereof he hath increased the altars: according to the goodness of their land they have made fair images." 1599 Geneva Bible There is no Tyndale translation of Hosea 10:1 available. He translated the first fourteen books of the Old Testament, and apparently did not translate Hosea

The Geneva Bible and the King James Version say that Israel is an empty vine, but the New International Version, and the other recent translations do not follow the King James, but say just the opposite, that Israel is a spreading vine, or a luxuriant vine. The New King James Version has an ambiguous translation, sort of in between, "Israel empties his vine, but maybe more on the order of the Geneva and King James "Israel is an empty vine."
The Book of Hosea is about the false doctrines and false practices of Old Covenant Israel, and Israel is called to repent. The people of Old Covenant Israel are reproved for their idolatry, Hosea marries a prostitute as a kind of parable of Israel as a harlot, and their ruin and destruction are foretold in the names of the children he had by her. The living parable of Hosea taking a prostitute for his wife expresses the love of God to Israel, and their ingratitude to him. The people of Israel are called to repent, or God will take away all their blessings and they will be brought into great distress. The people of Old Covenant Israel are said to be guilty of hating men in the slaughter of idolatrous sacrifices, though they had been sufficiently rebuked for that before, and they were guilty of both literal-corporeal and spiritual adultery, by which they were defiled.
They are rebuked for having only a form of religion, regarding more the rituals and sacrifices rather than the moral law. They are warned that God may send an enemy against them, because of their transgression of the covenant and law of God. And they are warned that God may send them famine, and they will be taken out of their land to that of foreign nations.
But then, all of a sudden in Chapter ten of Hosea, the recent English translations try to say that Israel is a spreading or luxuriant vine, rather than the empty vine of the Geneva and King James Versions which fits with the entire book of Hosea. You have to wonder if the translation committees on these new Bible versions did not have a theology in mind which would present Old Covenant Israel in a positive light, and in Hosea 10: 1 seemed to have found the opportunity to insert a part of this theology in support of Old Covenant Israel - as a spreading or luxuriant vine, contrary to the entire gist meaning of the Book of Hosea.
