Use only honest weights and scales and honest measures, both dry and liquid. The homer will be your standard unit for measuring volume. The ephah and the bath will each measure one-tenth of a homer. The Bible makes a big deal about honesty in every part of our lives, including in our work and business practices. Even most non-Christian businessmen understand that honesty is the best policy. After all, having a reputation for shady dealings, especially in the internet age, can quickly lead to business failure.
Of course, honesty is all the more important for the man who follows Christ, simply because God calls us to be honest in every way.
How important is honesty to you? Do you always do your best to speak truthfully? Do you always make sure that you don’t waste your company’s time when you’re on the clock at work? Do you always treat business clients honesty and truthfully?
You demonstrate your love for God—and for your neighbor—when you practice integrity and honesty in every area of your life.
Prayer: Righteous Father, I know You want me to be honest, with people in all areas of life, including business, work, and finances. Help me always to treat people fairly and justly, and please show me where I need to do better in this area.
