Immediately the boy's father cried out and said, "I do believe; help my unbelief." Mark 9:24

The words spoken in today’s verse came from the mouth of a man who was out of options. He wanted Jesus to heal his demon-possessed son, and he had no doubt heard of this Man who had healed many sick, lame, and demoniacs. But still, he doubted.

At first glance, you may wonder how a man who had heard so much about Jesus could possibly doubt Him. And you may even look at his words as a contradiction. But maybe you shouldn’t see his words as a contradiction at all. And maybe you shouldn’t assume that he had a hard time believing Jesus could heal people. Maybe you should look at his words as an admission that he wondered if Jesus could and would help him.

The thought of speaking to God with this kind of honesty scares many men. There are things, after all, you wish you could hide from Him, things you don’t even want to admit to yourself. But when you come to the end of yourself and still need God to do something great for you and within you, it’s just the kind of honesty He wants from you.

Do you sometimes find yourself doubting that God wants to do a miracle for you? If so, then confess your doubt to Him. He can handle it, and He can also open your heart and mind to what He has planned for you.
