I thought that the Holy Spirit wasn't given to us until after Jesus went to Heaven, And that Penticost was the day God gave his people The Comforter. If so, why through out the ot is it written, "The sririt of the lord was with him", and other many simlar refrences.

What is the exact Scripture your referring to sister? That would help us understand better your question.

GOD is 3 person in one: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

Because The Spirit was with Christ does not contradict that it would eventually be with us (believers). Also, The Comforter = The Holy Spirit.

John 16:7
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Also,

John 14:7
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

I think she saying why the holy spirit spoken in the Old Testament but then in the New Testament, she thought that the Holy Spirit wasn't given to us until after Jesus went to Heaven, And that the day Pentecost was the day that God gave his people The holy spirit. I guest that what she mean?

The spirit of the Lord was for a period of time WITH certain righteous people in the OT.
In the NT John the Baptist was the only one meantioned to have the Holy Spirit IN him
his whole life _prior Christ Jesus' assention.

After Christ Jesus' assention the Bible describes the Holy Spirit
coming into, speaking through, working in & through the 11 disciples.

That is a good question. The Holy Spirit has been working through the ages. He was empowering dedicated individuals for the purpose of God's glory. The purpose of pentecost was to make him more widely known and available. Which brings us to another question, have we utilized all that the Holy Spirit has made available to us? I've been learning lately to keep praying for more of an infilling. We can pray often each day to receive more of the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Amen

In the OT the Holy Spirit did not dwell in believers. He would come upon specific individuals at specific times but He did not live within them. From Pentecost on the Holy Spirit came to live in every born again believer.

Here are just a few examples

Num 11:25 And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that [was] upon him, and gave [it] unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, [that], when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
Jdg 3:10 And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.
Jdg 6:34 But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.
Jdg 11:29 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over [unto] the children of Ammon.
Jdg 14:6 And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and [he had] nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
Jdg 14:19 And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father's house.
Jdg 15:14 [And] when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the cords that [were] upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.
1Sa 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
2Ch 24:20 And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.

Promise of the indwelling Comforter

Jhn 14:17 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

I am curious about John having the "HolySpirit in him". Where do you find that in the scriptures?

He may be referring to Luke 1:15.

13But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. 14And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. 15For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.

This /\ is exactly what I was talking about for 2 reasons.

1> The verse says "filled with the Holy Spirit" not merely descended upon.

2> The filling of the Holy Spirit happened even prior John the Baptist's birth much less prior Christ's assention back into heaven.

Thank you for the responses, this must have been one of those scriptures I just passed over in the past. It seems I need to study this out too and I might even have to change my theology again today LOL.

Excellant point. Forgive me for not being more specific. There were specific cases of this but it was rare. The point that I was trying to make was that the Holy Spirit did not permanantly indwell all believer's until Pentecost.

Jhn 14:17 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
