Holy Spirit day at Burrswood part1/2

Saturday 28 April we went to Burrswood Conference Centre. It is a Christian Hospital and a Place of Healing. It has 220 acres of grounds.

We were doing the Alpha Express Course and on the away day the teaching was on the Holy Spirit.

You know the presence of Jesus is there and the grounds are so lovely and peaceful. There is a prayer hut too.

It was truly an awesome day. We started at 9 am with refreshments.

There was a cross on the grass, a bench with cross shapes in it. A cross on top of the Chapel. I took loads of photos.

We had our first meeting watching a dvd with Nicky Gumbel.
We also had discussion times to talk about what we saw.

There was another session before dinner.
We had dinner at 1pm and then had time to go for a walk around the place and went down to the pond. Also visited the bookshop before going back for the 1 hr long dvd session.

They gave us a beautiful dinner. Chicken so beautiful in white sauce, mixed vegetables roasted, from their garden , rice and salad. Delicious. Followed by fresh fruit of our choice.

During the day we learnt that we are children of God, that makes us Daughters or sons of the King we are heirs to the throne and we are Princesses and princes.

The Holy Spirit comes alongside us. Points away from Himself to Jesus. the Holy Spirit is Jesus' other self.

The Spirit wants to drench us. We need to have soft hearts and hard feet and be full of the Holy Spirit. If you are thirsty come to the rivers of life. Water symbolises life. Promise of the Father.

When we are born again the slate is wiped clean. Hallelujah! We are adopted into God's family. We have the closest intimacy and can call him abba. The Son of God takes us in His arms.

Trinity is involved in creation. Out of confusion - harmony - brings newness.

The Holy Spirit is breath. ruach. The Hebrew word for breath, wind or Spirit of God!
There is life in the face when the Spirit comes. When the Spirit of the Lord comes upon us He transforms us. Physical - Spiritual, bound habits, thoughts. Spirit of God enables us to break free. Can be lifelong process or instant.

If we have God's law inside our hearts then we will love keeping the rules.

Ezekiel 36.24 " 'For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

At the end of the meeting, we went forward for prayer to receive a filling of the Holy Spirit. I went down, slain in the Spirit once I relaxed and let go and let God.

I just lay there with His presence all over my body. I was prayed over while down there and although I had pain in my shoulder yesterday laying there, today I believe it has been healed.

We did not want to leave such a wonderful place filled with the presence of God.

We did leave at 5pm after another visit to the bookshop where I found some beautiful books I could not easily decide which to buy. One is: Moments of peace in the presence of God. Another: Quiet moments alone with God. There were a few different ones there and I never noticed them at lunchtime. The third one I remember was: Quiet moments in the presence of God.

That is just a small part of what we learnt. I may be able to give you more another time.

I have been working on this since Sunday but a big part of day I was out as we had alpha again and then church service.

Thank you Jesus for such an awesome day in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Part 2 What does the Holy Spirit do?

The Son of God takes us in His arms.

To develop the Relationship

Eph.2.18

18For it is through Him that we both [whether far off or near] now have an introduction (access) by one [Holy] Spirit to the Father [so that we are able to approach Him].

He helps us to pray.

Roms 8.


26So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.


He enables us to understand God's Word

Eph. 1.

17[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him,

18By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones),

The Holy Spirit gives us access to presence of God.

I believe in order to understand. It is a step of faith.

Gal.5

22But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,

23Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [[f]that can bring a charge].

We can become more like God by developing our fruit. A mutual love.

2 Cor.3

17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (emancipation from bondage, freedom).(D)

18And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.

Joy is different from happiness, it goes far deeper, deep down inner peace.

Others find out about the Holy Spirit by what we say.

Eph 4.

3Be eager and strive earnestly to guard and keep the harmony and oneness of [and produced by] the Spirit in the binding power of peace.

4[There is] one body and one Spirit--just as there is also one hope [that belongs] to the calling you received--

5[There is] one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6One God and Father of [us] all, Who is above all [Sovereign over all], pervading all and [living] in [us] all.


Gifts for all the Children

1 Cor.12

1NOW ABOUT the spiritual gifts (the special endowments of supernatural energy), brethren, I do not want you to be misinformed.

2You know that when you were heathen, you were led off after idols that could not speak [habitually] as impulse directed and whenever the occasion might arise.

3Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking under the power and influence of the [Holy] Spirit of God can [ever] say, Jesus be cursed! And no one can [really] say, Jesus is [my] Lord, except by and under the power and influence of the Holy Spirit.

4Now there are distinctive varieties and distributions of endowments (gifts, extraordinary powers distinguishing certain Christians, due to the power of divine grace operating in their souls by the Holy Spirit) and they vary, but the [Holy] Spirit remains the same.

5And there are distinctive varieties of service and ministration, but it is the same Lord [Who is served].

6And there are distinctive varieties of operation [of working to accomplish things], but it is the same God Who inspires and energizes them all in all.

7But to each one is given the manifestation of the [Holy] Spirit [the evidence, the spiritual illumination of the Spirit] for good and profit.

8To one is given in and through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] a message of wisdom, and to another [the power to express] a word of knowledge and understanding according to the same [Holy] Spirit;

9To another [wonder-working] faith by the same [Holy] Spirit, to another the extraordinary powers of healing by the one Spirit;

10To another the working of miracles, to another prophetic insight (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose); to another the ability to discern and distinguish between [the utterances of true] spirits [and false ones], to another various kinds of [unknown] tongues, to another the ability to interpret [such] tongues.

11All these [gifts, achievements, abilities] are inspired and brought to pass by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, Who apportions to each person individually [exactly] as He chooses.

12For just as the body is a unity and yet has many parts, and all the parts, though many, form [only] one body, so it is with Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

13For by [means of the personal agency of] one [Holy] Spirit we were all, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free, baptized [and by baptism united together] into one body, and all made to drink of one [Holy] Spirit.

The Growing Family

Power for service

Acts 1.

8But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.

He empowers us to witness for Christ.

Conclusion

Every Christian has the Holy Spirit,( Roms.8.9) but not every Christian is filled with the Spirit.

'Be filled'

Eph.5.

18And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.(C)

19Speak out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering praise with voices [[e]and instruments] and making melody with all your heart to the Lord,

20At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.

How?

Rev.22.

17The [Holy] Spirit and the bride (the church, the true Christians) say, Come! And let him who is listening say, Come! And let everyone come who is thirsty [who is painfully conscious of his need [d]of those things by which the soul is refreshed, supported, and strengthened]; and whoever [earnestly] desires to do it, let him come, take, appropriate, and drink the water of Life without cost.(I)

We need to go on being filled.

Come - receive.

If you do not have a thirst then say 'Lord I don't have a thirst would You give me a thirst'?

LLJ: I was first slain in the Spirit three months before I asked Jesus to be my Lord and Savior. I'll never forget that night. I was a 46 yr old alcoholic. I was angry because my wife had talked me into going to that church service and it was interfering with my night's drinking.

When the Holy Spirit came, I felt this sweet peace enter my body at the very top of my head and flow quickly down to my feet. All physical resistance left me and I fell backwards into the arms of a "catcher" (a man stationed behind me to catch me and lower me to the floor). I don't know how long I laid on that floor. All I know is that as I lay there, this warm, gentle power surge (The Holy Spirit) was moving back and forth over and over in my body. Up to that time, I had never ever felt so good physically and emotionally in my entire adult life.

Though my alcoholic thirst lasted three more months, my alcoholic "career" was essentially finished - replaced by a raging thirst for the Word of God which I still have today. 24 years later, the Spirit is still with me and in me, and I've been blessed beyond measure by being allowed to be part of what God is doing in the earth.

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my (Jesus') witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)

Lovely post LLJ and lovely photo's too.

It would be nice to see places like this where I live, as I could do with going to some pace like that, I really need it. But I will wait on God and be patient, and God will lead me to get total freedom.

I have a question, about slain in spirit. I read an article this morning, which I will post on here later, so that people can understand more about it. I am a very nervous person, and I feel God is doing things with me gradually, and I don't mind this, but by reading about being slain in the spirit, it does sound wonderful. I have had that presence with God, being at total peace, and as if I am flying and being in another world, but this came while being in prayer and it came gradually not, with an almighty, knocking down experience.

I also went up front one Sunday evening in church for healing, for inner healing of the soul, when it came to my turn, I wasn't knocked down. Personally, I know I was nervous, and I feel God knew this, and He knew I wasn't ready, hope you understand what I am talking about there.

How often, (in your opinion) would one need to be slain in spirit, because for what I have read, people are doing this regularly. For various reason, like I have read, that get slain for healing, to seek advise and answers from God, to be at total peace and to be in that wonderful presence of God.

This is an interesting topic, and it would be nice to hear others views too.

In response to your question wol I never used to allow God to anoint me with His presence but one day I went for prayer and had said to another person I never go down. I had seen it happen many times to other people. Never say never,
that particular time I gave God the freedom to do what He wanted and trusted Him and I went down in the power of the Holy Spirit. There were times when I would be mininstered to by Jesus while I was down. Sometimes there were tears sometimes laughter. I have been helped to my feet and been drunk in the Spirit after times like this. God can minister to us where we sit in our seats as well.

So I well understand what you are saying sister as I used to be nervous about it too.

I do not think there is a certain number of times that one needs to be slain in the Spirit. As the Spirit moves and we allow Him to work in us.

Falling to the floor is only one manifestation of the Holy Spirit being on a person. There are a number of others. Also, there's no formula, no ritual involved. The Spirit comes when He chooses to come.

I remember being in a meeting once and someone told me the Holy Spirit was all over me. I did have a sense of His presence over my hands and wondered how I would be able to hold the communion when it came round.

We have to be open to the Holy Spirit doing what He wants at any time and allow Him to do His work in us. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman and will not force Himself on a person.
