You are the salt of the earth....You are the light of the world. Matt 5:13-14
When I was a kid I used to read books about the forces of good versus the forces of darkness. They were stories of heroes, great deeds and eternal purpose. I even used to make up my own versions, with myself as the lead hero!
Yet, as I grew up I faced reality. Such things were in books.
But do you know this: If you have been born-again, you are called a saint. (Eph 1:1). Saint literally means "holy one". This isn't something we earn through our deeds, it is bestowed upon us by our Lord, because of what HE has done.
Note also that even if our daily life is not reflecting this truth, it nevertheless remains truth. In 1 Corinthians the Christians are still addressed as saints, even though they were in a terrible mess.
We are an "holy nation, a peculiar people". We are engaged in warfare with a powerful (yet defeated) evil one.
We are on a mission with an eternal purpose.
We are God's Chosen. His people.
So, what will our response be to this? God calls us holy, so the challenge is to live up to that calling. We don't act holy to become holy. But because we are holy, we can therefore live holy.
