Hi guys I'm new to this sight and I was just asking for help and advice and wanting

to introduce myself. If there's anything important I should know could you tell me because I probably won't be able to work it out:baffle:.
Thanks,
Jonah

Jonah,
Welcome to Talk Jesus. Is there something specific you are dealing with at the moment that you need help with or just general advice?
We would love to help.

John 13:34 - A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

James 1:5 - If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

As we see above, God wants us to be good to one another and if we need any advice He will give it to us liberally. I think gathering together and discussing God and His word is one way He spreads the wisdom. I pray that we can help you out.

Well I did mean in general, however a few things have been troubling me recently. Everyone always talks about "repenting of your sins" and having "Faith in god and loving him with all your heart and with all your soul". I want to do these things and I believe in Jesus and God and everything but I don't feel compelled. I know I am sinful but I do not feel guilty. It's as if I have been told someone close to me has died or given birth and I accept and acknowledge it but feel no emotion towards it. I want to love god and have faith in him but I rarely do. Sorry if this sounds confusing but to be honest it confuses me. And I think this absence of emotion makes me more likely to sin. Please can you try and help,
thanks,
Jonah

Funny you should mention that. I actually have that struggle as well. My wife calls me heartless, somewhat jokingly.
I am just indifferent to a lot of things. I think it just stems from being selfish, but I honestly don't care whether so and so's baby weighed 7 or 8 pounds. Now if it weighed 20, then I will be interested. I don't know if we should pretend to care out of love for our brothers and sisters or if God minds us not having an emotion towards it.

One thing I am curious about: What do you believe your spiritual gifts are? I wonder if there is some correlation.

I feel like my spiritual gifts would be discerning of spirits and words of wisdom.
This doesn't mean I am always using them or only speaking wisely. I think I struggle with the spiritual side of things. There is nothing to measure it by, if that makes sense. I would like to discuss this more and maybe we can start a thread on it.

I am not yet aware of any spiritual gifts and I think it would be interesting to start a thread.
When you were talking about pretending to have emotion and god minding it made me think of a book I am reading at the moment called "awsome on the inside" by tim hawkins. It's about how we should be changed from the inside out, or rather from thoughts to behaviour not vice versa. I think not having emotion would just be behaviour and simply an outside change, so it's quite confusing. You can google it if you're interested. There are many quotes in the bible about being changed from the inside out heres some(I'll just give you the verses because I haven't posted enough to copy and paste): 1 corinthians 13: 1-3, 1 peter 3: 3-4 and Matthew 23: 25-28

Johah,

If you want it, God will give it to you. Your desire is genuine, so I suggest you read the Bible often. For right now, I would stick to the New Testament and study the Old Testament when it is referenced to. I love the Old but you live in the New, you have time to study it as you go. Learn what it means to be under the New Covenant and not the Old Covenant...what are the differences? There is so much to learn, but as you progress many of your concerns will go away.....something else to learn is that it is not your faith that you must manufacture, it is your faith alright but God gives it to you as a free gift.
Keep at it, you are hear for a purpose...welcome!

Jonah let me welcome you to TJ forums were glad you found us . As for me it is the Love of God for what He has done for my life that compels me to seek the things of God . You might have to dig some but my testimony is in the testimony section .you might find it helpful to understand why I feel that way . Enjoy all God has for you here ...Rev

Hi Jonah!
You have no idea what a strength your honesty will turn out to be. Integrity is not everywhere in the Christian world but it should be an essential starting point because God is Truth.
Can I suggest you consider EMPATHY. If you have been harsh to someone ask yourself how you would feel in their place.
Feeling repentant is not instant - it grows with contemplation.
Thanks again for your precious integrity.
Petros
